It's not you I'm concerned about. It's the company you work for. The UColo list incident left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, including mine, and I have a long memory.

Finally, I may purchase Kinetic just to get PSyn, which, if memory serves, wasn't created by Cakewalk anyway. That's provided PSyn is going to be DXi and capable of being freed from the Kinetic container.

PSYN will run as a DXi and it can be freed from Kinetic.

Kinetic as an App will work as ReWire only.

Psyn will run as a DXi in any DXi-compatible app.

The Roland Synth is limited to Kinetic and Project5.

As someone from Cakewalk is checking this topic - can they tell me why I cannot take advantage of the special offers as that are on the Cakewalk website.

I live in the UK and I appear to be excluded from taking advantage of various offers that advertised on the website - including this one.

There is no equivalent page that I can find for people within the UK/EU and if there were it would no doubt be more expensive.

I am legitiamte owner of Sonar and Project 5 - why am I being excluded along with many others.

Our international distribution agreements preclude us from making offers available in the UK and elsewhere.

I applaud the efforts of Cakewalk for attempting to answer questions on KVR (which is a great collection of forums). It is surely in everyone's interest to find out more about Kinetic by talking to the developers / marketing...

Yes there will be a discount, but I cannot say for certain that it will be as low as it is today.

I have Ableton Live 3 and FL Studio Producer as well what will Kinetic bring to a studio with these two, Sonar and P5 in it already?

Well the Roland soundset is the first thing I can think of. These instrument sounds really are amazing, I was blown away when I heard them for the first time.

Project5 and SONAR don't really have a method for triggering MIDI patterns live, so you could use Kinetic for that.

The way you access patches and patterns in Kinetic is the best interface I think we have created for those tasks, so it makes Kinetic real fast for getting projects started.

I'll write back as I think of more, but my other Cakewalk duties are calling.

10 years is a long time to hold a grudge with anyone... especially considering the potential amount of changes in ideas and staff that have most likely taken place in that time. perhaps its time to move on?

also considering that there are probably more audio software developers who take up home here at kvr than any other place online.. makes me wonder what did you expect? other developers come here and answer questions and from time to time back up their company and software.. why should cakewalk be excluded from being allowed to do this?

It's a case of "you really had to be there", admittedly. As I noted, a lot of people were upset about what happened on the UColo list, and even if it was a decade ago, it was still a view into how TwelveTone operated that was not appealing. While many things may have changed in the ten years since, the same guy still heads the company, so there's an equally likely probability that very little has changed. Let it serve as a cautionary tale, if nothing else. There have been several posts in a similar vein re: FruityLoops and the company that makes it, and there are legitimate parallels there, IMHO.

As long as one Cakewalk rep comes in peace, no problem - nor should there be. My initial post was a reaction to an old raw nerve. Mea culpa.

The thing I like about K-v-R the most is its openness among the user community. It reminds me a lot of the types of discussions on the UColo list back in the day. Users could say what they felt about synths (hardware back then), apps, trade CAL scripts and MIDI files, talk about the music they were working on, etc. Sound familiar? It should. The developer community here is pretty damned good overall as well.

K-v-R is a refreshing place to come to and I hope it always stays that way. If I see it go "corporate" like the absorption of the old UColo list, I'm outta here to look for the next "commons". I've had more than enough of "cathedrals".

Okay, so it'd REALLY be grand if they were available as a DXi, but I can appreciate Roland not wanting to practically GIVE away some of their best stuff without restricting it in some way.

Awsome, though. If I were just getting in, I'd pick it up for sure. I may still do, just to get PSYN and have my favorite "2 Brothers" patch at my fingertips once again.

Where is the special offer for Arturia Moog Modular, Antares Tube, Antares Kantos and BBE Sonic Maximizer on the edirol site.

Also, there is no mention of Kinetic on the site and I have no doubt that when it is announced there will be no special offer and it will be a straight $ to £ conversion which is rediculous given the current exchange rate.

Went back and checked. Turns out that prior to USENET, there was a Cakewalk email list run out of the University of Colorado. Along about the 1994 timeframe, TwelveTone announced that Cakewalk was going to do digital audio.

1994 was the year I started at Cakewalk. At that time that our primarly online mode was Compuserve. I logged many countless hours in WinCIM back in the day...

In the midst of the acrimony, Hendershott appeared on the list, and the next thing subscribers saw was the UColo list being shut down, a USENET list being established (alt.music.cakewalk I think it was) and hosted in the TwelveTone network domain.

We started NNTP lists, hosted on our on servers, named cakewalk.audio, cakewalk.professional, cakewalk.coffeehouse, etc. These newsgroups were not part of the usual NNTP newsfeed (we may have tried briefly as an experiment). My point is, they were NNTP protocol but not offically a usenet thing.

I don't know how or why the UColo thing got shut down. It's pretty much impossible to shut down a usenet list. Maybe traffic just died off once we started hosting it on our own servers?

The list was pretty heavily censored by TwelveTone, and very little in the way of dissent was ever allowed to be posted.

That is totally untrue. The only time we deleted messages was when people posted warez, cracks, or patently offensive material. After the year of the worst releases we ever did (Pro Audio 7.0 & 8.0), the newsgroup was an absolute abyss of customer discontentment. Not a word was censored, and it wasn't shiny happy times.

Even now we have a very light hand in moderating our web forum. Maybe it's still too much of a Cakewalk love-fest for your taste. But there's no conspiracy behind that, just a bunch of happy users.

It's good to see you out here in the trenches with the "common folk". As someone already mentioned this is the snake pit and as you've already experienced sometimes a little misinformation some how gets turned into "fact".
