i have the jp6k and i really like it,but i feel like the filter + envelope let the synth down. the oscillators are top notch though.i normally have to use it with the filters wide open.adamtrance wrote:While Alex did a good job, its important to mention and give credit where credit is due, that his supersaws are based off my research of the supersaws, which my JP6K used (http://www.adamszabo.com/jp6k/). It was the first every VST to properly emulate the famous Roland supersaw, and after my paper went online, it started the ball rolling, and was used in Corona, Diva, Sunrizer etc... (or at least Id like to think that, so my research made a world a better placeIngonator wrote:A while ago Alex Shore published teh free "JP-4c" Reaktor synth:

This includes a Supersaw module that seems to sound almost exactly ike the real thing.
A while ago i did use this (wit hteh permission of Alex) to create some of my own Reaktor ensembles:

Thanks for the info and for reminding me about Dune. I have the BE edition from Beat mag somewhere. I will install it and play with it.chk071 wrote: Afaik, that wasn't possible in the JP-8000 either. According to the paper, and to what i read about it, you can only control the amount of detune of all oscillators (via the detune knob), and in the case of the JP-8000 also the volume of the center oscillator in relation to the other oscillators. On other synths, you can also control the stereo spread, and the detune laws (Dune 2 and Spire (Spire actually features the JP-8000 detuning behavior according to the manual, if you set the unison density knob to max, half should represent the detune behavior from the Virus)). You could also try Dune CM or BE which already gives you loads of options for setting up unison with the respective section and the mod matrix where you can edit the unison voices seperately, so you'd be able to set the detune for any of the unison voices seperately too.
In reality, I'm not that interested about the exact sound of the supersaw but I'm very interested in the method. I'm imagining new possibilities in sound design. For example, what if I have 7 wavetable OSCs that detuned differently while there is slight movements in the tables? It might be already exist of course but nevertheless it is still a new concept for me
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

For me, ultimate unisono-patch synth is Dune, closely followed by Hive and Sylenth. Also Spire should be considered. Serum and Synthmaster have cool unisono modules too, but it's not their "main thing".

Yeah, sounds thick, sounds dark, has a sort of a fizzy touch. I's really pretty unique. Nice plasticky filters and envelopes too.fischkopf wrote:Well, it sounds nice, has a unique character, and is somewhat hard to replicate in soft synths.Pyrotek45 wrote:What makes the virus's supersaw so sought after?

For me, the Alesis Andromeda is still the ultimate supersaw synth. Put it in unison mode and you have sixteen full true analog monster voices with variable detuning.

Or spawn 15 instances of any softsynth and set their main tune knobs exactly as you want.deastman wrote:For me, the Alesis Andromeda is still the ultimate supersaw synth. Put it in unison mode and you have sixteen full true analog monster voices with variable detuning.
Or even put random LFO modulation on the tune knobs if your DAW can do it (REAPER can) to make the saws move and the whole sound way more "alive".
If you set it up right, then a soft synth that doesn't even have a supersaw oscillator (for example Elektrostudio Model Mini) can give you a supersaw that sounds better than many hardware supersaws.

Their software prices are insane. Take a look at what equally prices VSTi's have to offer now. For 99 € it would be considerable but for 145 € no freakin' way... Spire, Zebra, Electra, even much lower priced synths like Helix, Z3TA and such offer a LOT more. And Roland is not such a big name that it'd justify paying 40 % more for just the name.
Sorry for the rant, but i wonder if they really expect many people to buy this with that price tag. I'd be interested in a synth with the Roland supersaw oscillator, but not for that price. Do they at least allow for reselling their licenses? Might look for a second hand copy then...
