me).
You may be able to get all the same exact sounds with both less pitch shifting, but I've tried both in the same position and end up at very different sounds.

That's not to say you couldn't match them exactly if you were trying, I guess.

We have all the Eventide native now with Anthology X plus the two reverberators outside that (BH and 2016 stereo room).

I know which is the best for me in most cases out of the metric crappe tonne of software and hardware reverberatores we have here, though I ain't sayin' what it is again... not that it's a secret, but there have been enough good suggestions here for everyone to find their own "best," probably even a few.

I'm often struck by what I preconceive will be best, isn't... it's good to have some choice, but maybe not too much?

dry sine (note c4)
sine + warmverb - ultra huge
sine + Bloom
sine + valhallah shimmer
sine + valhallaVintageVerb
sine + valhallaRoom
sine + valhallaUberMod

Do not operate machinery while listening to this test.
Sine played for about 1/10 second - waited for signal to go to zero. Normalized -3db.
Verb settings are left to guess by the listener, except for warmverb which used the default preset ultra huge.
This test exposes either my pc or my ear buds or both, as being 'noisy'.

Wow. Eventide's Blackhole is $49.95 (RRP $199.95) during March.... I can finally afford this thing...

Yep! Right there with ya. :wheee:

I like Blackhole for the real massive reverbs on synths during a simple part of a song. I use Valhalla DSP reverbs mostly.

Yes indeedy :hyper:

Closer to $40 at JRRshop, which even puts it under Valhalla's price.

So now that the playing field has been evened out - let the Shimmer Vs Blackhole discussion continue... 8)

Is Blackhole offering anything over B2?

Much lower price...

That part I can see. :D

As an owner of B2, does it offer anything new?

I also have B2 and just now demoing Eventide Blackhole native, I'd say Blackhole does sound really good, and can do similar good large reverbs like B2 can; but it appears B2 has much more in the way of tweaking aspects. Looks to me the main thing Blackhole has over B2, is the realtime morphing it can do via its ribbon, which can modify multiple parameters at one time in real-time, so it has ability for more "movement" of the reverb parameters.
I think they both sound good but to me, B2 still has it over Blackhole soundwise (not by much tho) and B2 is so much more flexible as well. I'm thinking Blackhole would be good live with that ribbon control, or I assume it could be automated to modify the reverb structure over time in studio.

[update] other folks already know this, but I was able to automate the ribbon controller with Blackhole no problem, pretty cool.
Tried changing continuous parameters in B2 while playing, couple controls actually stopped the sound briefly (like size and time) while others induce clicks/zips and such (except for mix and cascade). So this is definitely not something B2 can do.

Thanks. Very helpful. May be hard to justify the purchase, even though it's a great price.

I own both .. and feel like they're for different purposes. At least, I think Blackhole is great for huge, creative reverbs. B2 feels more like a workhorse reverb that you'd use on most things. Just my thoughts.

Lots of reverbs are very good for Ambient style reverbs.

Here is one for Ambient guitar and ValhallaVintageVerb.

It starts dry and comes in after a few seconds:
