Oh, that's cool. o: Or maybe it isn't, I'm no expert. :P

Oh my, those are good. Presets seem relatively cheap.

You can't go wrong with Sylenth, Spire, Dune II.

You'll be able to pick any of them up for $100 in the market place.

Spire and Dune can make more sounds than Sylenth (because the have more features - FM etc). And they both sound top notch.

Sylenth 1 is a fantastic synth as well, and also sounds great, and you can do a hell of a lot with it. It's very easy to program as well.

All good choices! :)

Good to know, I might just pick up the other two in future. :) Dune II seems like to front runner at this point.

I've also made a bank for Dune2. It is not as cool as these ones, but it is free - you may download it from my sig ;)

Some sounds from my bank were used in this psytrance track - it is made almost exclusively with Dune 2

Also there is Starmap - a Dune 2 bank soon to be released by by Ridan, it has lots of ambient and cinematic pads, dope sounds, here is a demo

*brain explodes*

Preset 16.... How is that just an arp?

And 4 MSEGs.... I need this. Are there a lot of third-party presets available/does it have a lot of support in the audio community?
I'm sorry. I'm not near my PC to check it, but yes you can load your midi files. Read the manual for more info.

I forgot to suggest Synthmaster. It's an incredible "do it all" synth. I have it and looking forward the coming free update which will add major enhancements to the filters especially. Synthmaster has several synth engines and can do a wide range of sounds. It also has many presets written by respected sound designers. Many presets for EDM as well. I believe it's a great investment and incredible value for money. It's under very active development and I will definitely will upgrade for version 3 when it comes.
Synthmaster might make a killer compo combination with Dune 2 later ;)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Synthmaster is below 100 USD (currently on sale) and has all the features you could find in any conventional synth. However the amount of options might be overwhelming for beginner.

Checking out Synthmaster right now, sounds like a good deal.

Well, I wouldn't call myself a beginner, but I wouldn't call myself experienced either.

Edit: So many incredible D2 skins.

George's stuff is great. Also, have a look at Synthmaster. Codex is great too.

Just finished messing with Synthmaster. Probably the most capable I've tried, and the online preset feature is pretty incredible, but the learning curve seems steep. :P Not sure if it would be worth it to traverse said curve, or if I'd be better off with D2.

Edit: Codex looks promising, downloading the demo.

Btween Dune2 and Synthmaster I'd choose Dune. Imo it has much more intuitive interface, and overall I like the sound more.

Imo, Dune 2 is one of the best synths to learn sound-design

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing, but I wasn't sure if I was simply missing something. :P

If you are patient then save up and buy Serum.

Sometimes you can find used copies on KVR for cheaper than full price.

It's easy to use, can cover a ton of genres and sounds amazing. You also get an FX version which you can use on your tracks which is awesome value.

Serum was what I originally wanted, but quickly realized it was impractical. My OP states that I'm unable to find a job yet, and therefore saving up nearly twice my budget isn't entirely possible currently. :?

Attempted to download Codex, but Waves Central fails shortly after starting on my 100kb/s download speeds.

I also prefer Dune 2, but I have other synths to cover everything I need so although I like Synthmaster, I don't use it as much as Monark or Razor for example.
Anyway, I bought Dune 2 when there was a discount some time ago (it was for $99), but you can find it in the Market place for such price.

I still believe that Spire or Dune 2 would be your best choice. Do you have Ableton synths like Operator and Analog? Those can help also to add something different to your main synth.

I'd decide going by the sound now, after so many (valid) recommendations. :) Go with what's the most pleasing to your ears. You can't go wrong with that.
