I hope this is not direct at me because I am not bashing FL's workflows by stating they are not the same as my workflow
No not toward you, it is the post right above my original comment which came from incubus. I thought it was pretty clear so i spared me to quote his lousy note.

Do you saw his last comment? A real troll.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Well.. I bought Fruity Loops way back when it was only MIDI capable for something like 20$. I then got the "pro" upgrade or whatever it was called back when the life time free updates thing became a thing.. paid another 20$ or so.. or maybe 40$.. and I've never paid any more for it since then. Now at FL Studio version 12.2 which has become a formidable music production system.

So yeah, in the case of Image-Line, "life time free updates" truly and honestly means just that. An absolutely mind boggling bargain. Heck, I've paid more for Reaper over the years. :hihi:

Cheers!

tbh that's all I was concerned about, didn't want to rub you or IL the wrong way :)

Anyways, if anyone is going to whine about it, it's kinda two things: First, the topic is about SONAR but it's hidden behind symbols. Second, IL did budinsky, which is fine, but the thread is almost completely about IL and not about $$$ar.

So, it's garbage about the "typical" stuff (which I'm pretty sure you knew, but same ol' )

$xxx has one less symbol than needed...are you sure? ;)

I chipped in here as the very first line of the very first response was...

yeah I can't see why this is a about sonar... i took it literally as (e.g.) $199 life time update?
if the OP wanted to know about sonar, why would they not say this in the post or the header.

and Image Line/FL, I think is a valuable contributor here having done it.

wasn't meant too :)
as a Mac user, Ive had no interest in FL, so didn't know you followed this model, as Id not checked your site beyond seeing its windows only.

Im actually slightly dismayed at what you say about % of new users... seeing users taking upgrades (paid or not) is a good sign of healthy development of a product. if existing users are not upgrading, it would appear to imply they don't care much about new features/development in the daw they have 'invested in'. Sounds like some kind of disconnect between the daws development strategy/pricing perhaps, and users requirements. and this is true for all DAWs , seem unlikely.
(and existing users aren't going to continually be jumping to new daws, due to the time investment)

new users, yes, I can see this... but the new users you mention, are often don't have $149(?) to spend, and why are they going to warez? most daws have student discounts, and there are good open source daws available.

regardless, I'm glad to hear you can make it work... like all things, choice and variety is a good thing :)

As a Sonar and FLS license holder, I'd love to see all DAWs offer a "buy it once/own it forever" model. It's a great model for the consumer IMO. BUT, I would imagine that it would be accompanied by a change in their policies to match Cakewalk's and Image-Line's policy of not allowing license transfers. (???)

It is a bit more then a "buy it once/own it forever" license. It is about a "buy it once/own it forever and get all the updates for free in the future on the main DAW"-license. Which, for me, is an awesome deal (talking about FL Studio here btw, but it is good to see Cakewalk is doing the same, for more money btw....)

I figured that went without saying, but thanks for clarifying. :tu:

So, what have we learned?

$xxx is going to have a limited time "lifetime free update", FL studio likes young boys, and there is always some guy that comes along and tries to say that everyone is raging on software they don't know?

Does that sum it up? :hihi:
