Right, honeymoon is over- I stumbled into an unexpected and unfortunately quite massive roadblock in Live- saving plugin MIDI mappings.
I've tried to various ways, it does not seem possible at all. For me, this is a showstopper, I'm used to working with custom pre-mapped synths for immediate hands-on control. Is there a a trick to have this in Live?
EDIT: not a showstopper, seems that most of my synths can remember their internal mappings. Still disappointing.

Midi mappings are only sabes with the set, nevertheless you could "configure" the parameters that are showed to Live, in device view, and any controller that maps automatically to Live as Push, APC or almost anything through nativekontrol DDC script would access the parameters in the saved order.

It seems that I only have (had!) one synth (Obxd, the freebie) which doesn't remember MIDI assigments.
I've really come to like Live's own devices and the way they integrate with the host... some of them are very high quality, and all do their job. Unfortunately Live Standard does not come with the nice Ableton instruments, and when considering Suite, price becomes a factor. Which brings Bitwig back into consideration, it's just so much more affordable, especially 2nd hand than Suite.
I'm probably going to stick with Live Lite until the next major versions of both programs are released.

.jon, thanks so much for the help earlier. This has been a very helpful thread and deciding between FL Studio, Bitwig and Ableton, I ended up with Ableton.
