Polyphony is irrelevant, i can make the Repro-1 polyphonic easily enough.

So? The thread title isn't about which is more authentic. Both diverged a lot from the originals (a plus to me) though in different ways. Making a giant 24 voice poly chained pad in Legend is breath taking. Making an aggressive aftertouch sensitive bass in Repro-1 is spine tingling. Would it be nice if they were both polyphonic? Sure. Would it be nice if Legend had more effects and a mod matrix? Yup. But I don't think either can be considered incomplete instruments. Want something that does everything? People arguing about synthesizers is one of the most depressing and yet entertaining things haha.
Everyone complaining about Polyphony is dumb. To me Repro1 is waaaay more flexible than the Legend, but then again I'm not trying to use it for pads.
Really I think both synths are amazing. Re the Legend, personally I never really 'got' the minimoog sound and always found the architecture too limited, so even with 4 voices of polyphony and unison after playing with the demo for an hour I was bored. BUT it sounded pretty much just like I remembered from my friends HW so yeah, really nice work from Synapse.
Repro1 on the other hand... I am saving to buy this one when I can afford it. To me it was incredibly NOT boring to play with. Possibly because of the fx, maybe the extra dollops of audio-rate modulation here and there, the Character of the filter... I don't know, but it feels and sounds like a very interesting instrument, and I am very keen to get to know it better!

When it comes to each synth being able to capably emulate their original instruments, both knock it out of the park. Filter/Osc/Amp quality? Both are excellent. When it comes to versatility, Repro-1 without the bells and whistles already offers a ton more modulation options and is capable of more complex sounds. The effects, mod-matrix, and Sequencer give RePro-1 the edge as a mono-synth. The Legend has some more basic effects, and no modulation capabilities but more importantly, the third oscillator of the original, unison and polyphony. I dunno, I'd call that a wash. Moog or Sequential sound? I prefer the basic sound of the Moog but I've spent a lot more time programming and playing Repro-1. For basic bass and leads I feel like The Legend is a better fit, but RePro-1 is more fun and would be my first choice when looking for something with more edge.
Is one better than the other? Nope. Are both excellent? Yep.

I choose Repro-1 because i find it more interesting because of the filter, FX and sequencer i havn't in other synths.
The Legend sounds great but i can create my own Minimoog with a modular while i can't build my own Repro-1 (mainly because of the filter and FX) with the tools i have.
I don't care about autentic recreation (anyway neither of them are with the extended features) ...just sounds and Repro-1 seems to fit more for me here too.
But both are great.
I also don't care about mono/poly since it's still easy to create a poly version via my DAW.

Looks like the modular enthusiasts have been a bad influence.egbert101 wrote:Five pages of opinions but no examples of either actually being used in music.
