The OPs main point is not the convenience or inconvenience of using ilok, its that you are putting yourselves at the mercy of a 3rd party and you are even paying for it.
(And yes, i know exactly why he is concerned because i couldnt help but notice this trend too. The customer is supposed to pay but then denied any and all control over the stuff they payed for. If anything goes wrong the customer is expected to accept all sorts of inconveniences including being unable to use the product, maybe even pay again because the company expects the customers to finance their copy protection for them too. (They dont usually just hand out dongles for free, do they, and the software side obviously costs money too.) Then if youre sick and tired of it, and you want to sell the whole thing on, more money is to be sent their way. Nobody would accept it if Ford came along and demanded to be payed for their permission to sell your car. Or if you had to clear it with LG and pay them a 'transfer fee' before you can give your microwave oven to your friend. But since this is software, and so many people these days are prepared to accept just about anything no matter how impudent it is, you cant even pass the stuff on to somebody else without paying yet again. You pay to get the product, you pay for permission to sell the product, you pay for the protection of the product, and you pay if the protection craps out. And if something goes wrong and for whatever reason you are unable use the product, tough luck paly, because you are completely at the mercy of the company. So you sure get to pay a lot, but no control. And it should be obvious that the more this is accepted, the worse it will get. In the end you will see this everywhere and then you WILL have to pay Ford for permission to sell your car. The concern is therefore perfectly justified because nobody in their right mind could possibly want that. Except of course those who profit from concepts like this.)

Why do you do it then? You have the coice, as a customer. If you don't know what iLok is, but you still read that it requires an iLok, and you still buy it, without informing yourself, then, sorry, your own fault. Seriously, people act as if they had no more own will these days, or something. And make pages of bla over something which is so simple. DON'T FREAKING BUY THE PLUGINS. How difficult is that? If you don't do, and noone does (but i can assure you that that is not the case, otherwise they would have scratched iLok years ago), then they would look for other solutions. The thing is just, this BLA BLA BLA comes from a handful of individuals. Who think they speak for the majority. They don't. You don't. So, please, stop it, and do the right thing. Don't buy. You can do it. Really. Even without daddy holding your hand.ENV1 wrote:The OPs main point is not the convenience or inconvenience of using ilok, its that you are putting yourselves at the mercy of a 3rd party and you are even paying for it.

Not quite that simple. Some companies, such as PSPaudioware, impose Ilok/Pace on future updates of existing products you have already paid for with a different form of Authorization when the product was first purchased.chk071 wrote:Why do you do it then? I'd say nonetheless vote with your wallet. If you're not ok with companies introducing iLok or eLicenser to their plugins, don't buy any more plugins from them. That is the only, and the only valid way to make a point. Noone from the companies will even read this. I don't get it. Gathering with like minded people? Trying to take influence on others buying decision? Power play? It's beyond me, i must admit. I'd never try and force my point of view on others. As we're at "forcing something" already. If only this was a discussion. But, we had this topic so often now, that it's really, really unlikely that it actually IS about discussing. More about ranting, and gathering Facebook "Likes".

there is a big misconception about the motives of the original post, I don't wanna start a revolution or anything, the people misunderstanding what I'm trying to say should read everything again.
I said I respect the companies and the effort they do creating new content. but this sort of procedures should be removed for ever, there are better options for the people who spend the money on it.
I said that I will not buy any product dependent of this software (Ilok/PACE) anymore, was clear, and I don't wanna influence anyone about what they wanna buy, I just wanted to say how I feel about...

Then i wonder why you post here, and don't bring your concerns towards the company.JunSev wrote:there is a big misconception about the motives of the original post, I don't wanna start a revolution or anything, the people misunderstanding what I'm trying to say should read everything again.

And, as you can see with this topic, this is kind of a notorious thing people do here. It's pointless, really.
