My Entry: "Cruise".

The project is made with FLstudio 12.3! :

The FLP file is at: (114 Cruise.zip)

I used the drum presets provided by cb8rwh. Thank you!

It uses 15 * Thorn, few effectors as reverbs and some limiters.

I don't know if asking how to create a particular type of sound is allowed, I will delete if not, but how do you go about creating a decent sounding snare or clap. I have created some, but they all sound like a kick with a hi-hat on top!

Post

Oh, you can absolutely ask for tips, of course!
You can pick a variety of noises, of course, but consider also using filters with envelopes as well as hooking the right kind of envelope on the pitch of your primary OSC and consider doing a brief ringing with the secondary OSC. Keep the AMP env tight!
Then you can use all sorts of things from drive on the filters to actual distortion in the effect section and delays and so on. You can create amazing snares with it!

Are you using version 1.02?
Yes, using the latest, 1.02. Noise swooshes are like every 15-30 minutes instead of 90 seconds.

Thanks for that Taron. I have tried pretty much those things, I guess I just need to try more! I have never really tried creating that many drums from synths before. Kicks & hi-hat I can just about manage, snares are definitely more complex.

Here, I made one for you! OH WOW...dang, dang, dang. 531Kb for a preset?!?!? That's wicked. I can't post it here. Hmmm...that's pretty mad. :ud:

What to do?
Snare 01.thorn
(google drive to the rescue...)

It's really quite fun. Of course, you need to figure out what character you want. This is something I enjoy. Played at E4 and only quick triggers make it sound quite nice. You can hold it, but it's not meant for that.
It's just an inspiration, of course. I also prepped OSC3 to be used, adding yet some more complexity, but it's not necessary.

Of course, I've only started playing with it and there's plenty more to discover. 8)

Thanks very much for the preset. I'll have a look when I get home from work.

Hi BJ, sorry to ask stupid question again. Is this now bylaw for this round:
a.) Don't use any samples, even those that come with Thorn? Or is it rather:
b.) Don't use any custom samples. You can still use those coming with Thorn, which are probably used in some of the presets anyways?

May I kindly ask you to put this in big red letters on the landing page. I have just skimed through the forum and almost missed your post...

Thanks for helping to clarify this.

Kind regards

May I?
- NO CUSTOM SAMPLES.

You can totally use what's in the box (hisses, noises, clicks, all that stuff). :tu:

Just a quick note further to the non-use of extra samples in Thorns Noise OSC - some the the presets in the ones I linked have used a custom sample. If anyone uses them I would check to make sure that they don't include a sample. I didn't think about this when I put up the link to the presets. I will alter the post to let people know. Apologies.

On a separate note, Dmitry just released 1.03 for registered users. I assume we are ok to use that version?

Post

Can i use ableton live 10? :D

Post

Of course you can. But there are so limitations, which you can read in the rules.

Post

As we say here : "Faire d'une pierre deux coups". Alright then.

I would wait for confirmation. 1.02 was a special build just for this contest.

Post

Yeah that is a good point. Only fair we are all on the same build.
