I am mainly a Cubase SX user and hesitate to recommmend it. The learning curve just plain sucks :(

Give Tracktion a go for two weeks and see if it works for you.

When T2 comes out I'm giving it a month to see if it will replace SX. To tell you the truth there are a bunch of things I really prefer in Trackion, but there are a few basic operations that need to be added to Tracktion to get me to switch full time.

My bet is on T2 :-o

I'm just quoting you for the use of the word... "paradigm"

you must be an authorized tracktion user to use that word! I'm calling the tracktion po po! :D

These kinda debates are so retarded... I  tracktion, but I love trackers too (and loads of people think those are pointless).

Well, um, there was no trackers vs Tracktion debate going on. I was just opposing the way koolkeys generalized his personal experiences with workflow and his personal sequencer needs to everyone.

Well, I bought it (Tracktion that is).... thanks everyone... :)

See you on the Tracktion KVR forum then! :)

And just like that, another sailor joins the ranks of the Tracktioneers. Makes me all misty and sniffly-like.

Welcome aboard!

Hmmm... since this gives me a license to 2 computers can I give my friend a copy?

I simply stated my OPINIONS, and unless I remember incorrectly(which happens often), I stated that those were the reasons that I like Tracktion. I didn't try to state them as fact, and apolagize if it came out that way. But I specifically said that you should use whatever makes music better for you. Tracktion is NOT for everyone.

Also, workflow CAN be improved through software. Just like a clean desk can improve your performance and organization at work. No, it's not the same for everyone, but Tracktion makes most people who have tried it work better. But not all. The way it is set up is to not have to sift through menu after menu, and put everything in a place that is easy to understand. It (IMHO) is way more logical.

So please try not to get on me for what I said. Remember, it's music that's important, not software. Use what helps your music, period. Cheers!

No, the license is for 2 of your own computers; this is to accomodate people who use a desktop and a laptop, or a Mac and a PC.

I'm sorry but.... i think podium is much much better. But, I am very glad that you found what you were looking for, and I wish you many happy hours and sonic fulfillment with your new gear. May you get as much out of it as I do from my fav softwares.

I found SX1 quite quirky/unreliable and struggled with it during its life span, but felt that Steinberg ironed out many of its wrinkles with SX2, which I found to be very solid. My primary complaint with SX in general though is the mixer. With a large track count, I find it downright messy and confusing to find something quickly. Even so, I still think it has the best pianoroll editor I have ever used and outstanding VST support (duh.. ;) ). Have you had the opportunity to take a look at Live 4 yet? I am interested in seeing what Ableton has to offer as a new contender in the Audio/MIDI arena.

I use FL Studio for just about everything, but I have to admit I really do dig Podium. It's just very cool, and the developer is super cool too and is very open to user suggestions and stuff. I'd take a look at these two :)

I gave Podium a try for a few hours and it seemed like everything too way to many steps to set-up. I really didn't give it much of a chance. Do "real" users find it to quick?

I keep buying how to books for SX and then I try to do the same type of operations in Tracktion and they are so much clearer.

Really difficult to leave a host once you know it, even if the work folow isn't the best.

Again, I'm betting on T2

actually, it is a pain the first couple times you use it, but then it's pretty easy. the only real tough part is getting it all set up, but once you get used to it it's no problem.

I watched the podium tutorials, and that helped a GREAT deal in getting things running. Once you've got things going, it's a very cool sequencer! (and truely object oriented I might add which is just awesome). You can bascially set up templates which reduce the number of steps... but it's still a lot of initial ground work to get things going. I think it's awesome... and if I worked a bit differently (more focused on midi for example), it would probably be my favorite.

However, when it comes down to draging audio into a project... choping it up, stretching it, looping it, applying fades... shifting the audio within the bounds of the clip (with the option of shifting to snap), applying VST effects to individual audio clips, and doing this all non destructively (and without jumping thru menus).... it just doesn't compare to tracktion... then throw the rack filters in there, and tracktion can get downright nutty real quick. But once again, this revolves around personal workflow.. so I'll shut up now.

Like many here, I can't wait for T2 either! :o
