This is mastered with the ML4000. The ML4000 is just before Limitless. Limitless is set as the final brick wall limiter with ISP protection with a target of 15 LUFS. the ML4000 is before Limitless. I am using 3 bands of dynamic processing and the integrated ML1 as a pre-limiter to give some character and glue the dynamics a bit. Limitless just catches the highest peaks.

Sounds good. But evalaution of the "goodnes" of the mastering tool without reference/comparative material is difficult.plexuss wrote:This is mastered with the ML4000. One reason is, that the present synths and amp modellers, etc. plugins, are so good, they sound very good only after a decent mix. Then, the differencies beween the mastering tool sound may be minor.
Your material is rather loud with a rather low crest factor (dynamics), which make the evaluation of the mastering tool quality difficult.
I repeat your master sounds good, its analog sounding, clear and 3-dimensional. But I can´t say how much of this is because of the mastering tool. If you make a couple of other masters, e.g. using the Ozone 8 Adv. and Pro-L 2, it helped.

Yes of course. But good to bring to light because, well, audio is complicated. I grant you in this example there is not much information there. however knowing everything is going through ML4000 with some dynamics processing and use of the limiter, we could say the whole mix is "coloured" by ML4000. The fact that it sounds good is a sign that ML4000 sounds good. That's about as far as you can take it if you want to take anywhere.Harry_HH wrote:Sounds good. It's interesting you say it's loud - it's average loudness is -15.3 LUFS which is pretty much what it is when its going full bore. I think my use of ML4000 reduced crest factor - however to my ears it sounds better without such overt transients. its give of take. the transients are seductive but I like a softer approach for this track.
Also, there is no tape emulation used on this track.

Being typically pretty thorough, I actually have converted presets for:
Filterbank, Compressorbank and the full Retro Line as well. If anyone wants
me to post them just say so. That is the extent of my McDSP collection.

Is the EC-300 has also been converted.
That would be fantasy.

the EC-300 impressed me so much. so cpu light and zero latency. I love lots of delays plugins, but they can be cpu heavy and add latency.
I am even considering selling some HW delays because I'm so happy with EC-300 as I'm finally am able to record in real time with delay the way I want it! I love the GUI and workflow options too.
I'm also testing futzbox and the 6050 channel strip. I'm liking them, but not as much as ec-300. I'll probably grab futzbox.
one complain from me is that it's pretty hard to get the name of the plugins. 6030, 6034, 6050 etc. it confuses me a lot. also would be nice to have bundle option for ec-300 + futzbox + 6050. that'd be really appealing to me.

Yes, the EC-300 sounds fabulous. I just sold my Strymon elCapistan - because I think I can cover now all the delay options I need with several dealy plug ins. Getting an EC-300 license was the last deciding factor for this.

I avoided McDSP plugins because I didn't like their low rent plugin look (I really hate green plugins) but my better judgement decided I should demo some of their stuff based on their good rep. I tried the Retro Pack and ended up buying it. This week I bought the Ultimate Channel Strip because of their flash sale. Well worth it. Probably be one of my first choices for kicks and snares.I'll probably get the multiband one too when they make it for Windows.
I forgive McDSP for making green plugins because of their high quality just as I have Absynth.
PS. I really hate green plugins. It has to be pretty kick-ass for me to want to stare at one.

Yes I agree. I hate the way green plugins make my music sound so... green. They really need to do something about that. Like maybe use a tree bark texture for more warmth or maybe a blue sky colour for more transparency. How they could go with such a crappy sound as green is beyond me.dblock wrote:[snip]
