I don’t know maybe I like the nineties but I quite like the factory library. The sounds seem all very usable, as opposed to insanely complex or overly effected or modulated stuff like you get with some products that is impossible to actually use in tracks. While I use komplete and Omnisphere for example, I could never find a place for 80% of their presets probably. Halion to me actually seemed like it had more usable stuff. But again maybe that’s because I was in my formative years in the 90’s. I still enjoy the sound of a fuzz heavy weezer or smashing pumpkins guitar riff too. ;)

And Depeche Mode violator does not sound dated to me. It sounds timeless.
This guy seems to think the Halion 6 sampled instrument library is too heavily drenched in effects

How is the eLicenser dongle? Does it last? How is the replacement policy?

They have gotten better. The new (small) ones don't seem to break as easy anymore. The old ones had a tendency to disintegrate like aged cheese. The Steinberg licenses themselves are not that much of an issue though since Steinberg has a Zero Downtime system that allows you to continue to use the software without interruption if the dongle breaks, is lost or stolen. But to be perfectly honest, among the all the Dongle systems this is the least reliable one.

I had one of the older dongles on my desktop for quite a few years with no problems.
It never was moved though. I even forgot it was there.

I used one on a laptop and broke it pretty quickly.
I'm kind of hard on laptops though, especially getting up, tripping over the cord, and have even dropped them a few times. :dog:
I've got an old broken one that I held together with duct tape, and it worked for a while.

Yes the new ones are better. They're quite a bit smaller. But using one with a laptop still makes me a bit nervous.

Note that Steinberg is currently working on a new piracy protection solution that wont require the USB dongle, and should be more user-friendly than the current Soft-eLicenser system.

No, he's only talking about the World Instruments library which is mainly suitable for New Age-y and electronic stuff. The rest of the Halion library tends to use pretty reasonable effect levels, and they can be easily tweaked by using the Quick Control knobs, which of course can be mapped to a hardware controller.

Thanks to everyone for the dongle info. The extra info is reassuring.

Hey do you work for them? Is there really no polyphonic after touch? Are they going to add it? Or maybe even MPE?

My Steinberg dongle is plugged into the usb hubat the back side of my monitor. It's been there for six years now and I never experienced any problems with it.

If that involves any mind of C/R stuff this is the final straw for me to leave Steinberg behind me....

To rely a company with such a bad customer service for reactivation for something I bought a few years back: of course not.

Got 4 or 5 elicenser dongles round the studio here. None broke yet after 6 years. Never unplugged...
Def not made for travel so don't even try it man.

Guys, still waiting for the serial / access code deliver since last Thursday. Anyway, due to my slow Internet link, may I know if the download can be selected individual synth rather than a bulk download ?

If it provides a download link like "https://" then it will be better as I can use my synology to do the work.

Thanks!

I had two break on me in less than 2 years. And I treated them like raw eggs. This is just a guess but my impression is that they seem to not respond well to heat fluctuations. And if you have multiple dongles next to each other and/or certain USB hubs there can be quite a bit of heat during operation.

So what's with all the reviews saying that Halion Symphonic Orchestra has 27GB of samples, but the size of the download is now only 6GB, and the manual states that's all the disk space it will use?

Steinberg says you need 7gb of free space.. (download is a Zip 5.99gb)
The reviews suck?

Contact Best-Service. (i guess you already did)

Theres a Steinberg download-assistant with an "Absolute 3" section where you "have to" download every single product. Can start all..but i won't recommend that. Better the bigger products one by one.
https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/co ... stant.html
(edit.. They say: Absolute 3 (full installer only).. but no, there's no full installer, just singles)

I just downloaded the Groove-Agent over night and when i came from work the download had an error, when i tried to un-zip. Bummer.
