The main reason why soundcloud isn‘t dead is, that I don‘t need an account to listen to soundcloud. If anyone posts a spotify link I cannot and never will listen to it...
Same for bandcamp...

Why? You don't need an account to listen to music on Bandcamp.

Re. Bandcamp, it surprises me how relatively unpopular it still is. You can see on an artist's page how many people have bought each track or album, and even for quite well known artists the sales are lower than I would have expected.

if the well known artist is also on itunes id imagine the majority would use that. which is quite sad because if more of them went to bc they might discover lesser known artists too

I am glad nobody bought my music yet on itunes...; - ) But maybe someone did and Apple didn‘t pay me? No idea how to check that...
And yes I can listen to bandcamp without an account...
They are very clear about how music distribution can only work nowadays...!
