They added filters? And wavetables? From VA synths? And every single patch is pure VA (yet uses "wavetables")noiseboyuk wrote: Wed Nov 21, 2018 2:02 pm They added filters and wavetables from the synths themselves as part of the profiles, again usable by anyone. Every single new patch is pure VA...
Sure man... whatever
"Newly designed State Variable Filters are included, which were specially created for the OB-6 hardware profile and can seamlessly blend between lowpass, notch and hipass filter modes. Over 50 New “Analog” Oscillator Wavetables are included and featured in the new hardware profiles."
So, you have ONE new filter (an SVF filter - the word "filters" probably means that you have more than one slope choice), and 50 wavetables (you can easily get a lot more for any wavetable synth that costs a fraction of the price of Omnisphere, and probably better ones, like the ones that will be included in Hive). BTW - wavetables are NOT analog, they are digital (kind of sampled) recreations. Those are the new features of the "fantastic-non-plus-ultra-synth-that-costs-an-arm-and-a-leg-but-replaces-anything".
AND those features have nothing to do with the "hardware profiles", so much so that, as you even admitted, anyone can use them, nomatter what hardware they have. Hardware Profiles, as said in the quote I published , are nothing more than "controller templates" to be used in conjunction with specific hardware synths.
You should stop eating all that marketing Mumbo Jumbo, and start decoding carefully what's really there.

You're right but there are always some people that, instead of just commenting (positively or negatively, fairly or unfairly, it doesn't matter) on the thread subject, like to bring to the table all the "great stuff" they have, instead.

Then you have the people who like to keep dragging a discussion through the mud, well, just because even if it's not related to the thread at handfmr wrote: Wed Nov 21, 2018 6:36 pmYou're right but there are always some people that, instead of just commenting (positively or negatively, fairly or unfairly, it doesn't matter) on the thread subject, like to bring to the table all the "great stuff" they have, instead.![]()

Wow, guys... A lot of anger & angst here... I've been a software developer for years and I don't even get so stressed when people criticise my products... Let alone someone elses!
The DX and FL seem pretty cool... Maybe not so much for the original factory presets so much as for the stuff you can create yourself using the extended programmability.
The clav is OK, but like their piano, if I wanted realism I'd go elsewhere. Again though, I think that this instrument becomes interesting when you start to bend it and do stuff you just couldn't do on a clav.
The Buchla seems to be very niche, but that might just be the presets. I have an early Cronenberg project coming up... And its going to be perfect for that.
I mainly do covers or "in the style of" projects. I just finished a UbiSoft Halloween trailer to the music if a John Carpenter 1978 medley. ALL of the synth parts were V Collection 5... Perfect! I couldn't use their piano because it just didn't sound real enough. I also found that I had to add some 3rd party VSTFX to add an old analog flavour to the Arturia sounds.... which just seemed a little bit too clean otherwise.
For me the upgrade at 99 is worth it. I see it like 50 for the DX and 50 for the FL, with the other 2 instruments thrown in for free.
I'm glad I held out for this price drop. I suspected, from what all you guys were saying, that Arturia would end up going lower than their "best price you will ever get promise". I winced for them when I read that... I wonder if someone in marketing got grilled for that later?
So, after all the hot air... Yeah, I think it's worth it at 99.

I owned a DX-7 for decades. Most of that time, it was tucked away in an anvil case, battery slowly running down to nothing.
Over the years I resurrected it a few times, as I bounced back into playing in local bands, or had the time and inclination to pull it out and use it. Several years ago, I finally sold it. Since then, I've been searching for a good replacement. The Arturia DX-7 V is the first software version, that clicked with me. I've had the DX-7 V, as part of Analog Lab for a year, but not the full version. So I had great presets.. but no editing capability. I picked up the full version of the DX-7 V with the Black Friday sale a few days ago.
Anyway, I have been blown away by the editability of the DX-7 V. Posting back on this thread to mention that Groove 3 has a series on the DX-7 now. Tyler Coffin goes over everything from the Basics (and there are a lot of little bits that I picked up... having not read the manual carefully) to Sound Design. The series is ~ $12 (half off) during their Black Friday sale. Totally worth picking up IMO.
cheers -

Look up Trevor Horn interviews on YouTube, and you’ll want the CMI in the v6.
I upgraded last year, «the best ever upgrade price», but can’t really regret it. Although Arturia did a shitty thing here.

Sure man... whateverAs I said, you don't even know what you have, and certainly have no idea what you are talking about.

Any interest in sharing V Collection presets? Here is an ARP2600 V3 preset created from the ARP2600 Lead FingerJazz. I converted it to a Poly patch, added aftertouch... and opened the filter a little, and a couple of other minor tweaks. It's a fun keys patch for tooling around. It's one of those patches I find myself using a lot, for polysynth jamming.. Nothing special . . just a poly. Unzip, then it can be imported into the ARP2600 V3. Patch name is JDoo - FingerJazzPoly

But why let facts get in the way of a good misguided argument.

Yes, Horn used both a lot (Fairlight & Synclavier). It's a bit _the_ sound of the 80s and I love this sound a lotBMoore wrote: Sun Nov 25, 2018 6:31 pm Look up Trevor Horn interviews on YouTube, and you’ll want the CMI in the v6.
