Synapse Audio Dune 3 user requests

Dune 3 has been on my wish list for a while to check out.
Just installed the Dune 3 demo today. It seems like a fantastic synth and sounds awesome. But I had to read the manual to discover that there is no patch browser/search. Was looking for a button to open "Browser", or something like that...
But searching for folders and loading them? That is tech from an ancient civilization!
WTF?
Most other modern synths have added this feature already. And this seems to be a popular feature request over at the Synapse Audio forum. What surprises me even more is the general lack of concern for this deficit among the more experienced members of the Dune community.

The feature request for a new Browser has been passed along to Synapse so they are aware and as you say it's the most popular request at the moment.
I don't have any use for a new Preset Browser since I know how to handle files on my computer but if a Browser gets added at least it will stop the complaints so if for no other reason I am in support.

Honestly, WTF with WTFing the folder-based browser?
People can’t go to the “pads” category or can’t remember their favorite sounds?
Sofisticated browser won’t be a deal-breaker to me, neither is the current one (unless a synth has thousands of presets, and Dune doesn’t)
I’d rather wish (as always) that mousewheel behaviour was consistent across all contols and their values (since it’s already a part of implementation)

Weapons of choice (subject to change):
Godin Redline, Kuassa, Fuse Audio, Audiority, Roland A-500pro, Dune, Dagger, TAL, Reaper for Rock & Synthwave pleasures; Viper and FL Studio for guilty EDM pleasures

I'm not buying Dune 3 until they add a browser. That's a deal breaker for me. And also a big let-down, because I really like the synth otherwise!
Maybe it's just a 'me' thing, but it is what it is...
And I've been using synths since the 80's, including some with memory cartridges, floppy disks, and MIDI SysEx data transfers for preset bank/patch maintenance. Couldn't stand those either. I understand some developers still carry on with old school bank/patch mode, even when unnecessary for virtual synthesizers. A modern preset browser with tagging, favorites, and search wouldn't hurt a bit. But it might help a lot!

it already has one
same here, mine had no presets whatsoever thozzz00m wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 7:30 pm And I've been using synths since the 80's, including some with memory cartridges, floppy disks, and MIDI SysEx data transfers for preset bank/patch maintenance.

The relevance was that someone made a remark earlier that looking in folders for presets can't be too hard. Been there, done that in folders and much more many times. I agree, just unnecessary to revisit the past using a state of the art modern virtual instrument. Breaks my creative flow. I used to punch holes in cards to code also. Doesn't mean I still should do that. I can work faster with modern tools.AnX wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 8:14 pmit already has onesame here, mine had no presets whatsoever thozzz00m wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 7:30 pm And I've been using synths since the 80's, including some with memory cartridges, floppy disks, and MIDI SysEx data transfers for preset bank/patch maintenance.

What’s the difference between looking in folders and selecting categories?
Or you wanna choose “harsh metallic pads” and be done, without knowing the sound of other presets?
There is Nexus for that. Many presets, can’t know them all.
Recently I stumbled across one of the best synthwave sets I’ve heard. It’s for Dune 2, and I can already recall which preset is which. It’s a good workflow. It’s mostly for sound design, not for hauling around thousands presets. Dune doesn’t have thousands presets.
I’m not gonna defend the absence of functionality (like i’ve seen here regarding MPA).
I’m gonna defend Dune or other synths which have simplified browsers for historical reasons.
There are three stages of browser evolution - lists with prefixes, folder based categories and modern tag-based.
Dune is perfectly fine with folder-based. It’s better to have folder-based than to have a bunch of untagged presets, scattered between tagged ones.
And the overhead of simplified browser is much smaller than advantages of Dune or Sylenth.
Hope you’re fine with Windows and don’t switch to some modern OS with tag-based FS, cause you know. Games, apps, common reason

I was just surprised (shocked, really) to discover that such a well regarded synth would be designed this way. And since nobody had posted to this thread in nearly a year, I just added my opinion. Trying out the demo had been on my to-do list for a long time, as I know a couple of people that have it and say it's the best.
Glad you all are happy with it, but you just saved me $179. Thanks!

And you just passed on one of the best sounding synths on the market just because of the patch handling.
Like I said the request for a new patch browser has been passed along to Synapse so no telling what the future holds.

Yep thanks. I saw your post in the Synapse Forum 'Wishlist' where you said "Even though I have no need for one I'm afraid that a new Browser is the number one feature request at least for DUNE 3 judging by the sheer number of people requesting one".Teksonik wrote: Fri Mar 19, 2021 1:56 am

It very, very, VERY obviously needs a patch browser or at minimum some way to mark your favorites. Ignore the people whose hobby is arguing on the internet, who have waste their time making hundreds of posts trying to argue with people about how their own oddball opinion is better than the general consensus. There's a nearly 100% chance that they will respond to this very reply and try to argue with me because they have nothing better to do with their time.

Well since you have nothing better to do than spend time on your hobby of arguing on the internet it's 100% certain I'll respond. I suppose the irony of your post has eluded you.
Like I said I don't need a Browser because I know how to handle files on my computer. If I want to favorite a patch I'll simply put it in my Favorites folder. Painfully simple.
But I also said that a new Browser is the most common feature request at this time so if Synapse is going to add anything more to Dune 3 it should probably be a new Browser even though I have no use for one.
Normally I favor features of function than can expand the range of sounds a synth can make rather than features of convenience that might make things easier for some people.
But really there is nothing more that I can think of that can be added that hasn't already been requested and turned down like .sfz support or the ability to set key ranges for each Voice Layer which would most definitely expand the range of sounds.
So even though my top requests won't or can't be granted I'll support other people's request for a new browser if for no other reason to stop the bloody whining......
