Hello guys. I apologize for not writing correctly. I am from Kazakhstan, I don’t know English. I’m writing to you through Google translator. I’m new to the forum. I really want to realize my songs, and write them in English. Tell me if I can find a person here who writes the words to the music. And I need a vocalist who can sing this part. I really want to realize my songs. I arrange and compose myself. Sorry, I sang in an incomprehensible language, and you will understand it yourself.

young producer think they need analog sound without understanding what this mean, but in fact in EDM sound are proudly digital, the only usefull use of a moog in edm is to provide a vocoder carrier.VELLTONE MUSIC wrote: Sun May 05, 2019 8:25 am i don't think modern EDM scene is interested of vintage analog sound so much, than to use some of the stuff typical for analog sound, but anyway it's not the old analog sound itself the interesting thing, but dynamic of the sound achieved one way or another plus everything that digital era gives more,i definitely wouldn't spend time and money with vst emulation with 4-5 waveforms and so limited options and workflow, that i will be totally bored after 10 minutes sound design.Things need progress,so thanks to all developers that offer powerful, modern vst synths.Just an opinion![]()

EDM - Electronic Dance Music i consider every music style, which use synthetic sounds, programmed and used by somebody using hardware or software synths to produce music.
EDM is common term and could be anything, but modern EDM in my understanding are all styles after year 2000 cause logically some of fans of modern EDM havn't been even born before that

Not all music made with distorted guitars is metal. Same with synths etc. He's asking about EDM though... not NOT-DANCE music. k?vurt wrote: Thu May 09, 2019 4:33 pmwhat if its not dance music?VELLTONE MUSIC wrote: Thu May 09, 2019 4:08 pm EDM - Electronic Dance Music i consider every music style, which use synthetic sounds, programmed and used by somebody using hardware or software synths to produce music.

He's not a native speaker. Probably really means EDM since this is a widely used term.

so, is edm then an umbrella term for techno/trance... and so on
or is it a specific genre within the club scene?
serious question. it wasn't a thing when i was clubbing, outside of music journos (mainly indie rock) using it as the umbrella term, back when the crossover happened between acid house and indie (second summer of love)

Nobody knows exactly. It's a well hidden secret among hipsters.vurt wrote: Thu May 09, 2019 4:47 pm so, is edm then an umbrella term for techno/trance... and so on

On a more serious note, i'd go with the umbrella term, though. Even though i really don't care, when i listen to Trance or Deep House, whether they are "EDM" or whatever. If it's good music, it's good music.
Actually, when i think about it, it's even worse than a umbrella term. Whenever Trance sounds like crap, people seem to resort to arguing that it's not Trance at all, but, "EDM". Which is crap. And then the discussion ends.

yeah, i agree with you regards labels, which is why i don't really listen to any one thing, good music comes in all guises.
however, its more i see it come up in questions a lot regarding "this edm sound..." or "this technique..."
so wasn't sure if there was some specific thing i could listen out for as "edm" or whether i should answer (when i can) in relation to the techno and trance i listened to then, ie is there much crossover, or might i as well be offering them suggestions on grateful dead recordings?
as in, am i a dinosaur?

this is what confuses mechk071 wrote: Thu May 09, 2019 4:49 pm Actually, when i think about it, it's even worse than a umbrella term. Whenever Trance sounds like crap, people seem to resort to arguing that it's not Trance at all, but, "EDM". Which is crap. And then the discussion ends.
i listen to stuff and think, this is trance
then someone claims its not trance
so then i start thinking "is what i call trance actually trance?"
and its hard as you point out to discuss this, as it seems edm brings up the "this is shit" and discussions end.
