No real futurists interested in the thread title, evidently.
What do you mean?
My 'Quantum' computer future was outlined in all seriousness. :o

That's right, you did. Seemed laced with irony and social criticism...

The political landscape making it impossible in this dimension, as things stand.

to be honest I'm always at least one version behind all the time anyhow, new fancy features dont mean a lot to me. Like Samp having Melodyne, happy for those who want it but I have no use. My DAW does what I need it to do so I have no expectations, of course that doesn't mean they wont come up with something that will make me change my mind but I wouldn't complain staying right where I am at either. I think about what I wanted years ago, what is available today and I am still quite humbled and consider myself very fortunate  YMMV

Sorry you have been in so much pain vurt
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

A-ha! But! The irony is very much in place as people will be using those Quantum computers to run vintage copies of Fruity Loops. And in this case don't you feel that criticism is in order, social or not? :ud:

Besides, a real Futurist must be equipped with irony, a critical outlook, and acid tablets for those moments where they look too far into the future.

I read 'ruin those vintage copies of Fruity'
which is somewhere between 'bastards!' and 'what's to ruin?' here
with that potential alternate timeline where no one understands time signatures, let alone relativity

I thought mine somewhat forward looking and appropos. With a nice little jab at the legal community. I was only half kidding, even if the outlook was bleak.

I agree with the Robert Henke/YouTube theory that someone posted on page one toward the bottom.

I think that I've noticed people gearing toward their tablet or their phone and perhaps that their laptop will be something that isn't necessarily part of the equation, or at least not as big a part.

Reason will look exactly the same despite the widespread use of 16K computer monitors.

Backwards compatibility and multiple platforms will become even more of a hassle than they already are. Maybe enough that all DAWs work on/to/from/whatever a universal VM.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

Due to the "great new feature stall" they will either all become free like Cakewalk, or literally every single function in the DAW will be stuck behind a paywall requiring a micro-transaction and that payment is of course only for a temporary subscription to use that feature.

I am wondering whether DAWs will go the Adobe annual subscription method. You pay an annual fee to use it.

^Good thing there's huge competition in DAW market, so if one company try to introduce it, it will quickly go out of business.
