Sickle, is Kantos any good? I have Magneta, but never really got into it. Not really sure what that one is good for.
Kantos is pretty cool, but the learning curve on it is fairly steep, not to mention you have the screwiest GUI that gets really tiring after awhile, but you have some real mangling potential there..you can use that on any audio signal, of course..grab the demo & feed it some loops & see where it takes you.

Sounds like a regular vocoder to me, of which i have several. Think Im gonna check this one out all the same though, if only to rest my curiosity! Im dying to see what all the fuss is about. Agreed, the GUI does look super sketchy, but then again it aint got to be pretty i suppose.

Kantos? Nope. Neither's Alien Solo. Both extract pitch information from the incoming signal and use them to drive a proper synthesis engine. There's also a bit of envelope following goes on, but nothing like the parallel analysis/filter channels of a vocoder.

Sometimes I just load up a huge chain of FX and play with the noise I get plugging/unplugging my cord from my guitar, or tapping it against the connection. Wierd static and pops a-plenty, but it's hard to make them that musical. I like bowing my guitar with a cello bow, using an e-bow + slide, or volume pedal, infinite delay holds, or assigning lots of LFOs or ENV detectors to various chorus/delay/verb/filter/fuzz parameters. Touching the strings to the pickups is kinda cool as well, or scraping my fingernails as slow as possible along the ridges on the strings with gratuitous pitch shifting into a mod delay. The marble rolling on the strings trick is fun too, or slapping the neck/body of the guitar or the back springs (if you have a strat-type) to make ambient noise. Getting the guitar into feedback and then using a pitchshifter pedal AFTER that is pretty trippy, with a wah in the mix, of course you need to use a mic'd amp to do this. If you have microphonic pickups, you can sing into them or do wierd shit like that, blow on them, etc. If you have a long beard you could attack the microphonics with that too, never tried that myself. Sandpaper f**ks up your strings but makes noise too.

That should find it's way into "The guitarists sound tweaking secrets 101" easily.
