Kinda like those ambient free synths.Preferably with ability to load my own waves.
Well, you can't load your own wavs, and maybe you're richer than I , but apart from that I'm thinking XPand!2. In terms of bang for the buck, there's probably nothing like it in the synth sw world, especially if you think of romplers. There are about a thousand patches, and as you say, you can stack them four and four, to make impressive voices.

Quite a lot of people use XPand!2, but I don't hear of that many that try to take advantage of their layering capabilities. Besides, since I like its patches overall, I think they are mostly towards 80s and 90s synth music. They are not super complex, but the point of a rompler is not to provide you with the hugest sound, but to perform the general background arrangement, in my opinion.

I have the older Sampletank2 and SonikSynth2 imported into ST3 and it works OK in Cakewalk by Bandlab (formerly Sonar).

The free version is compatible with all previous “Powered by SampleTank” sound modules and sounds (can import all previous sounds and Combis)

wow i did not realise this thanks!

XPand!2 is probably one of the most under rated and least talked about synths. I use it all the time in nearly every track I write. Love it. Currently on sale for £10 at Plugin Boutique. :tu:
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Not going to cut it, doesnt have ADSR and filter for each sample + no ability to load, so its best / most convenient for me so far to load 4 samplers in FL Studio and layer them but its cumbersome to find the pitch of the samples and set envelopes in multiple windows, would be more convenient within one GUI.Cant have KB tracking to exclude samples on lower notes, cn use split but its not the sAme as fading away.
I jumped on Synthedit to create such sample player myself , im close , just need to find module to load own waves and its done, each sample has ADSR and filter.IT would be handy to have keyboard tracking so higher notes fade away bass sample and lower notes fade away low bell sounds.
3 sounds is not enough to get this roland d-50 like sound but 4 is close.
Its such a simple principle, why the hell nobody did it yet in small synth without any builtin wavs, just naked sample player 4x, 4x LP cutoff , 4x amp adsr, maybe 1 reverb and keyboard tracking , LFO for vibrato.
It wasnt hard to build it in synthedit but finding modules sucks with broken links.

Any other idea's welcome :tu:
Just grab Dexed and any/all of the DX7 presets floating around.

I'm sure you know, but im sure DH (David Haupt?) did a wav osc, tho i guess it may not work in current SE...

CronoX by linplug sounds like it might fit the bill, but sadly discontinued

Good choice! :D
Remember that the four slots you see is not to make it "multi-timbrale", meaning assigning the sounds to different tracks, but to layer sounds. With a thousand onboard sounds and up to four combinations of each, well, it's 10 to the power of 12 sounds, if I am not mistaken. For each sound, you can then assign attacks, sends to onboard effects etc. It's really a powerful rompler!

There is another clone of Roland Juno called June-21 - https://github.com/mikerodd/june-21. It ships with original presets of Alpha Juno and you can found really 80s in it.
