I can think of heaps and heaps and heaps of musicians who keep producing some truly god-awful music, and simply can't relate to my peer group (ie. normal folk) enough to move their emotions anymore
true

listen to the latest lenny cravitz album
i went to his concert and even his fans stood still
on his new stuff - the entire show leaned on old material and the big 10 minutes of the show was an extented version of let love rule. He`s still a good entertainer and his guitarist is the bomb but i think he misses people around him who dare to spout some unbridled criticism.

I am not a fan, not because of his talent because he has immense talent...I can't get past the songs that have distortion on vocals, drums, on everything. There's nothing wrong with it, just not my style. I find myself wanting to fix it...

actually you're right on the money...hockey games kill me because the audio when the bruins are on the road. Gates set up so when there's ice noise it squashes the commentators, cheap shows must go off and broadcast radio is out of the question. I'm compulsive this way. My speakers for my home entertaiment center are on stands I built to be the perfect hieght, they both are measured exact so I'm the vertex. Anything I can connect digitally is, including music choice. it's a sickness really... :?

You know, this really hits close to home. There was a time in my life when I really needed people to tell me I was being a total wank with my music...and they didn't. Those were some of the darkest days for me as a musician, and certainly as an artist.

Entertainment does not always necessarily reflect true art. The first is a mere moment in time...the latter can endure forever.

Composers are whores with imaginary tits trying to turn a Las Vegas trick for a rich OPEC arab is all.

You want me to spank you and call you 'naughty boy'?
Or get on my knees and suck you like a Hoover?
I can do both with audio... I'm a composer. ;)

Your money, my talent.
I will make your day. Everyday you buy me more.
I'm not my ego. I'm your clean safe whore. ;)

I'm also drunk off my ass, so don't mind me.

Well...I hope you are not typing whilst operating a motor vehicle, mate. :P

not sure if it's the same phenomenon but I've noticed that discussion forums like this one tend to have a few people that obviously know their stuff but seem to take great pleasure in confrontation and arguing.... not exactly trolls but they can usually be relied upon to show up and make lots of dogmatic hot-headed rants. There was one guy on the Fruity forum (who shall remain nameless) who seemed to make it his full-time occupation picking on newbies by ridiculing and patronising them, or interjecting in every discussion with his own incredibly opinionated and condescending attitude. Once I had a technical support question which didn't involve him at all but he still stuck his nose in, deliberately misunderstanding everything I said. They're the kind of people who often say "RTFM". I think that image-line suffered because of the notorious hostility in their forum for a while... I'm not sure if it's because these people are musicians or just that audio technology tends to attract some very anally retentive types.... :nutter:

oh yeah - went to the sae the other day
and i commented something on a device i saw - something like : Hey handy mixing table with the automated faders and all ...than this guy replies "yeah right like you know something ..it`s the most unmanageable table ever build .....

a bit flabbergasted, all i replied was ....oh sorry - didn`t know that. Later turned out the guy was one of the teachers. I think this attitude has more to do with technical snobism as with musicians !

That's simple but true :D . One of the most neglected sentences at least in my countries' art-scene  or however one wants to call it. SOME gigantic egos, surely not all, wouldn't behave like egos would that simple sentence not be called riciculous in a way over the last years by many. Little example: we had Klaus Kinski, a sensitive and good actor. He always in a rather unbelievable way bashed women in talk-shows, with the ever-repeating horrible stupid nonsense-sentences ( I don't repeat them here). Well, but in reviews of his work since around 1995 only his "sensitiveness in an ugly world" or something is mentioned. His hate, his bloody hate was simply seen as something that really makes the artist. Fine for him but one-sided really :D .

I understand Sleek Month's opinion about self-conscience pretty well. My example a few pages before came more from some writers who tend to bash anyone. They ARE successful in the way they get many prices for their works, but are not too well-known compared to many musicians. So they bash anyone who seems to be someone "standing in the way". Now there IS such a problem for some. In old classical music, for example, Schubert and Brahms and others had that problem after Beethoven had written 9 extremely new and artful symphonies. It MUST have been a pain to stand on the shoulder of a giant. But for example Brahms hesitated and hesitated for rather a decade and then came up with 4 symphonies which people who are in that kind of music listen to ever since :D . Maybe a better way than talking egomaniac nonsense to magazines like SPEX in Germany  instead of working hard on your music  .
But it's true, many feel their music isn't making it only because of the sounds, so they tend to try it with noise and bashing. Not really much here at KVR, but we had that too, and it seems to work.
Would nobody care if someone boasted I'M THE HERO YOU DUMBFUCKERS!!!, well, then it wouldn't work.

I still like the sentence of Laurie Anderson, who once said, if you sit in your studio or room and produce a true work of art, then it's a true work of art, if someone listens to it or not. That's not to say it's nice if nobody listens  . It's just a statement, in my opinion a good one.
