I've created a template for approaching companies. It's my own style but maybe there are some things in there that others who might want to reach out to a developer or other company. If I've missed something let me know.
Hi,
I’m contacting you to see if you are willing to donate any of your products to the KvR Call to Arms 2020 charity auction.
This is an annual event on the kvraudio.com run for and by the members. Over the years the auctions have raised more than $185,000 for Save the Children, $17,000 for Plastic Oceans and $30,000. Many companies both large and small have donated software licences or hardware. This year the charity is Music Cares which is supporting musicians in the US affected by the Coronavirus. So far over $10,000 has been pledged.
The auction is currently live at https://go.rallyup.com/musicares with new donations being added all the time, the auction concludes midnight 31st October.
If you are willing to donate please contact “Luftrum” (Kvr member and well known preset/ sound designer via email to luftrum (a) luftrum.com. There is a maximum of five donations per company so when it comes to software, bigger packages are preferred over single licenses - pack some big bundles and donate those instead. If you are thinking of donating hardware then be aware that KvR has an international membership so you may want to clarify arrangement over shipping and who will pay for that.
I’m just another member of the KvR community, I’m reaching out to you because…
(Put in personal connection with the company like I have your XXXX product / possibly mention a similar company or high profile company that has donated)
I hope you feel that you will be able to support this charity auction to support fellow musicians affected by the current pandemic.
Regards (your real name)

That's a fine template and thanks for sharing Mark, I had a similar thought since many likely don't know what / how to write but with your help there's no excuse now. It's a really good template.
Thanks again for your involvement, if you get answers from any companies, please send their contribution to my email, otherwise I can't keep track of logistics with what is donated where and how.

He looks frighteningly like Vangelis. I bet Vangelis could flip a CS80 around in the studio, so they might be evenly matched in a fight.
Of course Capes would easily win if there was a Budgie competition.

Yes, over $15k that's amazing! New stuff added daily.
Also, do not forget: You can give away your old plugins to the 2nd hand thread, it's here: viewtopic.php?f=43&t=553357 and you can bid on some yourself, there's over 50 different plugs'n'stuff to bid on.
