Sorry for the OT @fmr but out of the two (Arturia/TAL) which one do you find closer to your hardware Juno 60 (regardless the chorus)?

I love TAL for what it is and then I read this topic on gearslutz and this bloke goes absolutely mental on how shite the TAL is (in his opinion) because of the envelopes being poppy sounding just like your typical VST and nothing like the hardware.

I don’t own the hardware and would rather believe someone who does and actually designed presets for TAL. Also people compare it to 106 many times. So would you say Arturia or TAL is more accurate (without the chorus!)?

Honestly, and although I like TAL Chorus and TAL U-NO-LX very much, I think that the Arturia Chorus Jun-6 is closer to the original.

That doesn't mean TAL Chorus is useless, of course. I would dismiss those comments you quote.

Installed but it's in demo mode. No activation button, just a "buy" button that opens a 404...

It's not active in your account yet -- when it is there should be a non-demo version you can install instead.

For me it took several hours before the license arrived. Until then the plugin was only in demo mode.

Primal Tap is good for bass if u want that retro chorus sound. put it in time mode and crank up the feedback to fatten. Also good on 808 kicks and snares

You also made me aware of their Hex drum plugin which resembles those 80's Simmons electronic drums!
But I realize the VP-330 vocoder "ensemble" effect is what I'm after, and I just found out that Xils-lab have a 30% discount on all their products until January 15th!
There's a banner on their main page with the discount code, but in case it scrolls by, it's "HappyNewYear2021".

Good thing I waited to buy the Chor'X chorus plugin.
I might even get myself that VP-330 vocoder back (I sold mine probably25 years ago) in the form of their V+ plugin with that 30% discount (or their "analog string machines" bundle).
Their "Ensemble" effect appears to be identical to (not surprisingly) their VP-330 setting in Chor'X. Try the demo -it gives you an instant warm strings tyope sound from even the most basic synth sound!

PS: can someone please explain what the difference is between "iLok (iLok 1, 2, 3 and soft)" and "iLok USB-eLicenser"? It appears you can choose between the two types for Xils' plugins.

First off thanks for pointing me to the sale - I've been looking for a while and they didn't look as if they were going to have one.

Do you have Cubase? If so you will have a USB eLicenser and may want to assign the serial key to that.

iLok 1, 2 and 3 are the USB dongle versions of iLok.
iLok (soft) is the PACE software that runs on your computer and you can assign it to that computer only.

I don't understand all the hype for the TAL plugins on internet,for me they all sound dead sterile,flat as hell.

I don't understand why the Acon Digital Multiply doesn't get more love on the other hand,this chorus sounds great and it is free!
It has some goodies such as an EQ and it more configurable than a Juno style chorus.

No, I opted for Tracktion Waveform as my DAW. As I'm new to DAWs in general I also like to use Garageband because it's so self-explantetory and .... just works!

Can you just transfer all those licenses to an empty USB flash-memory stick, or is this a special USB device you have to buy for this specific purpose?

I assume my iLok-dependant plugins that I've purchased is of the "soft" license kind, where I've used the "iLok license manager" app to enter the license code and change them from demo versions to full versions. I haven't run into any issues with this, but raises the question if I'm dependant on an Internet connection each time I start up my DAW (with those plugins in use)?

Awesome! I'm going to try out their demo first, but I have a feeling the Xils lab Chor'X is the one to go for, for that Roland "Ensemble" sound. Truth be told, that effect was half the vocoder sound of the VP-330 IMHO!

Yeah, they have some nice stuff (I've installed both their free plugins: Digital Multiply which you mentioned here, and Verberate Basic which is a simple hall reverb).
I know this shouldn't matter when selecting a plugin, but to me the visual aesthetics mean a lot as well: if a plugin is easy on the eyes, uncomplicated and professional looking I tend to prefer those instead of the more complex and advanced ones with a "messy" and complicated user interface.

On that note I've purchased a handful of plugins from Kilohearts during their last 50% sale (among them their ensemble plugin which isn't quite the VP-330 ensemble I've been looking for, but very nice nonetheless). The 50% sale only lasts till 1st of January.

No, both eLicenser and iLok use their own proprietary USB dongle that you have to buy separately, that's why many people don't like this way of copy protecting plug-ins.

I've never had to uninstall so I'm not sure of the details on uninstalling and installing on a different computer. There may be cases where some manufacturers allow multiple licences.

I think once you've run the manager software and assigned it to your PC that's it, I don't think it 'phones home' every time you launch or anything like that (someone will correct if that's wrong). There is an iLok Cloud version which does need a constant internet connection, that's why I don't use Cloud: can't 'phone home', can't use your plug-ins.

As I say, some manufacturers will probably allow two-computer use as it is a fairly common request. I guess you'd have to check each individual manufacturers' Ts & Cs.

Yes, I do testing and sound design for them. I also do that for other companies as well. AS do many other guys around here (collaborating with companies as beta testers, etc.).

That doesn't mean I can't be objective, I defend Arturia when I think it's being attacked unfairly and unjustifiably. I do the same for other companies which I am not related with. Actually, in the post you quote, I was defending TAL Chorus
