I demoed some of your synths and do like their character and sound. MPE is a feature any synth I‘ll buy needs to support. Will it??? You didn‘t mention it...Markus Krause wrote: Wed Nov 04, 2020 12:30 pm MPE is also possible with VST 2.4 and already supported in Icarus2.
Midi 2.0 should also be possible with VST 2.4.
Its really important! If you don‘t have a MPE capable controller you can‘t know how important this is! Its night and day seriously...THE game changer of the early millenium... at least for musicians who play their instruments. Pure producers who construct their tracks will never understand this though...

So people who use mod & pitch wheels, or aftertouch don't truly play their instruments and are automatically “just producers who draw their stuff in their sequencers“?
And what about pianists? Are they also just some “sequencer producers“ just because they use pedals instead of MPE?
I don't want to deny that MPE might add these features in a more “natural way“ and are in fact an evolution, but “the olden way“ isn't that much inferior. It's just played differently and requires different skills to achieve similar things

Icarus2 supports MPE.
From the techical side it is possible to support it also for Warlock if there is demand.
Things Warlock can do that Icarus2 can't: The oscillators, the way the ringmodulation works, the same sound of the 'breathy', some modes of the arpeggiator, some effects, some filters

I, for one, would very much appreciate Warlock MPE capacity!
If it were easy, anybody could do it!

Great news that you are making new synths !!!
I really hope you'll make new ones forever, Tone2 were the first synths that blew my mind.
Personally I'm not a GUI-guy : Icarus is the Tone2 synth I fancy less on an artistic aspect but that I use the most. I really love the ElectraX design (and not the Electra2 one, I don't like the default layer skin actually), the Gladiator one (the blue one is plain perfect), and Nemesis was also great-looking !.
Sound is what matters, and on this we all trust you !

Curious about that, because I never understood the need for this psychoacoustic processing too.. why do you think it was better to remove it? Useless when oscillators are good enough on their own?Markus Krause wrote: Wed Nov 04, 2020 5:50 pm I initially started this project as a replacement for FireBird, since many people have asked for a replacement.
There was also lots of stuff that I did dislike and was removed, like the Reverb, the psycoacoutic processing, microtuning, the playback of the oscillators, many filters, many effects, the GUI, etc. In the end I had a completely different synth, which was not longer FireBird and also not longer compatible.
Also, I understand you probably consider some filters, effects, and other stuff obsolete and not good enough, but why remove microtuning?
Thanks,
Mario

How many synth users will use it actually isn't statistically clear, but for designer's experiments is dopeSpitfire31 wrote: Thu Nov 05, 2020 11:00 am I, for one, would very much appreciate Warlock MPE capacity!![]()

MPE is still pretty new. i totally understand why some developers doesnt implement it in their products. You dont need such a feature for music production. Not everyone owns a ROLI Seabord or whatever. Playing live is a different story but still.

Someone start a Poll. "Do you Require MPE Support in Synths?". or "Do You Own MPE Capable Hardware?"
The results may be interesting not just to Tone 2 but other developers as well.
It may indicate there is sufficient demand to make MPE worth implementing and it may indicate it's not worth spending development time on yet.

Maybe if such a thing could be done on reddit or a Facebook group. KVR suffers a bit from the Gearslutz phenomenon. The people who obsess over any given feature are in the minority overall, but are overrepresented on these forums.Teksonik wrote: Thu Nov 05, 2020 5:26 pm Someone start a Poll. I don't know I've only seen the same few people asking for MPE support over and over. I think the Poll numbers would be revealing.
Perhaps those who are interested in MPE support could start the Poll to see if they are alone in their requests or if there are many others who support the request.

MPE is great and all, but it mostly, if not only is made for live/performance, not producing, sound design. That is just my opinion though, hate it if you will. But im sure MPE will be the standard in a few years. But right now, i believe its just too 'new' to be standard. I would actually have Poly Aftertouch to come back as a standard. Not that i can actually play a keyboard professionally, but still. Wonder why that feature was scrapped though? Now we only have channel aftertouch

I, for one, will never buy a non-MPE synth ever again.

I don't currently have an mp3 controller, but I am interested in getting one eventually. I'm an ok player and I wouldn't really consider needing it for live, as I'm in a classic rock band (where I do mostly piano and organ). I was thinking it would be nice to use for more "new agey" electronic stuff.
The lack of poly aftertouch is indeed a real shame. No excuse really for that one, it's been around a LONG time. My Modx doesn't even have channel aftertouch--and too many other keyboards and other midi controllers lack it-- which is not a huge deal since I bought it for live use, but I wouldn't want to use it for a home controller.
I've been super-impressed with the Roli and other videos. Some of the things you can do would be tough to do with traditional controls or maybe take several passes to do them.
