if you dont mind could you elaborate a bit why you would do this? I believe i've seen a video of it. basically that way you are supressing the resonances that soothe would attenuate on another track instead, does that work well for making space for stuff?Dombaeb wrote: Thu Aug 18, 2022 5:27 am I purchased Soothe for one thing: live spectral sidechain compression (aka Trackspacer). Oeksound doesn't mention that feature, but you can mix the whole track using only Soothe. It's the wealthiest spectral compressor on the market![]()
SmartComp does that too, but it needs time to analyze and think about what to compress and how.
What (effect) plug-ins have really impressed you lately?

Very interesting, thanks. Haven't tried it yet, got it for free and was actually looking for an auto-gain plugin!DJErmac wrote: Wed Aug 17, 2022 2:00 am Another one that really impressed me lately is Autoformer by Plugins United.

By using only the down-left module, it becomes the most insane autogain plugin I’ve heard : it’s reliable, clean enough (simply adjust the right button to get the cleanest possible sound, it’s material-dependant) and working for real. When compressors and limiters can’t maximise the sound volume constantly as I would like to without crushing dynamics more than expected, this thing is going to be my new best friend. This thing seems... clever. I’m going to try it more and more in the next weeks, it’s a quite fresh discovery for me.

Soothe does spectral sidechain like Trackspacer or SmartComp. It suppress not just resonances on sidechained signal, but the whole spectrum of incoming signal. And, it does it in live, like Trackspacer, but with more control and options. There is “Sidechain” button, try it and see how it works
Actually, Soothe is the best spectral compressor on the market now in my humble opinion.
Why would I do this? Well… To free up space in one instrument for another (unmask frequencies/remove freq conflicts)… I can mix full song just with Soothe and proper gain staging. As a result, this song will sound totally fine. With one plugin…

Ahh, wow okay! That makes a lot more sense. I'll check it out more, I remember trying out the sidechain but not really knowing what to use it forDombaeb wrote: Sat Aug 20, 2022 7:00 am Soothe does spectral sidechain like Trackspacer or SmartComp. Fabfilter Pro 3, been using their stuff for ages, but it still amazes me just what this EQ can do, it's so versatile, but also stable, efficient and beautiful and usable interface is the cherry on top. I cannot work without their tools.

Yeah I love this plugin too. Actually, I love pretty much anything Sonic Charge does. Also, I've been really appreciating Reasons built in effects and instruments recently. I still use Malstrom all the time, the Scream4 distortion is killer, and the Audiomatic Retro Transformer adds a touch of something I love to certain sounds.
Windows 10 PC. Reason. Cubase. Waveform. Reaper. Studio One Pro. Epiphone Les Paul Pro II. Nektar Panorama t4. Yamaha RBX Bass. Faderport 2. Eris E5 Monitors. SSL2 Interface. Audient Evo 4. AKG C214. Aston Origin. MXL 990.

Bertom Audio's Denoiser is something I use all the time for guitars, but is great on other sources too. It's so perfect. It takes all the annoying noise away, but doesn't do the typical noise gate thing where it cuts off the sustain of notes, or does the 'tsshh' thing. It just removes noise, and does it perfectly unless of course you want a really tight gated sound, which it doesnt really do.

I really love YSFX because it loads JSFX plugins.
Meaning you can use your favourite plugins from Reaper etc, but in other situations and hosts.

I've been impressed by Sixth Sample plugins. Their free delay (Deelay) got some notice here but I haven't seen any of their other plugins mentioned even though they seem quite good. They just released a new freebie called Cramit that combines multi-band compression with distortion. Their interfaces are very clear. (I know some won't like them. That goes without saying for every interface imaginable. But they're clear.)

Surely there must be consensus by now...

ToneBoosters Enhancer, very underrated plugin in my opinion.
Also, EMVoice is almost incredible for me - not a miracle but still very useful in sketching songs with the ability to write melodies and lyrics in context in the DAW.
Have to check Sixth Sample free plugins but they look very promising.
