Ableton has always been portable with a laptop.

What other Drum Pad or Launchpad type device supports MPE?
quneo and sensel

Sensel is no more unless you get one second hand.

Maybe the closest competitor

I have one and its great that you can play bit with drum sticks and configure pad sizes and gte visual feedback etc....but I also have a PUSH2 as I love the integration with Live, display, rotaries etc

Not sure if the PUSH 3 would mean I sell my ERAE...I sort bought it to make a software based Nord Drum!

Just ordered my controller version of push 3, will replace my push2 and my Sensel Morph. Space saving :)

Damn, I’m seriously tempted. I’m in the market for an MPE controller anyway, but didn’t pull the trigger yet. Joué is cheap, but seems to have reliability issues, and the other one‘s are a bit pricey.

Now, Push 3 isn’t exactly cheap either, but I’d get a Live controller on top of MPE pads, which seem fine by the looks of it. I’ll have to watch a few more YouTube videos, hmmm.

And an audio IO for if you are on the road with a laptop or want to hook up the ADAT for CV work etc...and look at the lovely display, touch rotaries and big (new) jog wheel...go on do it

The big (new) jog wheel actuals lets you edit individual notes

I wonder how much a second hand PUSH2 goes for :?
I hope Ableton come out with an upgrade path ...

No upgrade path I asked Ableton, and no is the answer unfortunately.

rod_zero wrote: Tue May 23, 2023 4:45 pm The first question would be, is push 3 designed to finish a track up to mastering or just for sketching the idea? Not clear to me
I think it's for live performance primarily ...
Since it was released Push main marketing point was: starting a track away from the computer keyboard and mouse, and for that part of the process I think it works great, I have been using it since version 1. Marketing materials at release focused on how you could get your idea down fast in Push without looking at the computer up "recording" a first arrangement, from there you turned to the computer to finish the track.

For performance I have always find it lackluster, navigating the mixer is tedious, you can't control FX in sends while playing an instrument, adjusting track volumes is also not that easy on the fly as with a fader controller.

I don't think Push 3 actually improves in either composition or performance, it allows you to take it out for jamming and playing your set "live" to an extent without the computer, but it is the same UX.

For making the track at home/studio the stand alone unit doesn't actually helps or adds more features to finish the track from the arrangement, you probably still have to make a lot of editing in the computer, and mixing and mastering. Sure you can try to do it but it will be a massive PITA.

So it is kind of "stand alone" up until the same point Push 2 was.

The new pads are impressive for sure and for me the best new feature, will get it for that but just the controller version.

Who the hell wants to travel with their laptop and something the size of Push 3! It's huge!

Does ARM stuff work on Linux?
Everything works on Linux, even RISC-V or Power PC.
Plus MIDI, MIDI 2, MPE...

Oh, and my RME babyface Pro has ADAT, XLR inputs and outputs and phantom power. Plus it is compact and runs off of the laptop power.
