66 free sounds for JULY JULY

Post

I have the Roland Cloud Juno 60 but it's a bit of a CPU hog. I've been demoing the TAL U-No LX this evening and comparing patches.

I decided to add JULY to the mix and used the import patch feature to quickly compare. After about 10 minutes of comparing JULY to the others, I bought it.

I used to own a real Juno 60 and this thing absolutely kills. I'd put it alongside the Roland Cloud version in terms of quality and faithful sound to the original, but it's also cheaper and better optimized.

What specifically about JULY's sound do you like and dislike, when compared to Roland Cloud's version and the TAL version?

Differences are so minimal it's hard to say.

The chorus on the Tal knocks off too much high end for me. Maybe there's a mix knob that I missed. The RC and July chorus let's a touch more of the dry sound though. RC has a mix knob for the chorus which is cool for dialing it in to taste.

Other than that it's just workflow and CPU benefits. I also liked the Arturia Jun-6v, but prefer the compact GUI of July (or Tal).

Okay I've found something I don't like about JULY :)

The MOD wheel has controls for DCO and VCF. Increasing the DCO amount should increase the LFO modulation amount. This is how it works on the Roland and TAL versions.

But instead it does a pitch bend? I don't know if this is a bug or a feature, heh.

Maybe this is not intentional? Let the developer know. :)

The thing about July that really bugged me is how the volume control is on the extras page. Not a major thing but quite a few times I wanted to adjust the output but I couldn't because I was on the fx page. The volume should be always be accessible.

As said on Discord, since the hardware doesn't have a mod wheel, we just copied the same behavior from the pitch bend. That said, an option to enable that behavior could be nice.

I agree, I'll add it in the next update.

I've added a new beta in the user area (or in the Public Beta channel on our Discord) with the extra Volume in the FX page. Thanks for the suggestion!
