f**king stupid you are.. "craft.." what is this?

that life should be put to some pecuniary value?

i got no problem with trent he's brilliant (i guess..)

lonely, bitter, whatever.. i post because i'm fed the f**k up of people who can't see beyond the centralised reference model, and it'd be nice to see some musicians grappling with other forms.

that's why these "top 5 synths" threads get so many "just use somethnig!" responses.

the only difference between me and loads of others is that my analysis of culture indicates that the format shapes the dynamics.. the medium of commerce is the message.. things have a quantified value..

sure, flipper, let's network.. but let's not all network in the same fashion thru the same portal.

this whole "centralised reference" shit is that, sure, it's a functioning model, but it's dangerous, because it's easy to abuse by anythnig w/ bearing on the central position.

i don't give a f**k what you think of me. you've got to eat your own shit in the end, i'm just trying to give you a heads up, but hey, dig your own bomb-bay.

As someone who was a big trent fan in my teens, I can say that his music is all about experimentation, individualism, anti-authoritarianism, and challenging excepted norms. He would probably agree with your views to some degree. His music is popular, but I would hardly say it's pop music. Many bands today have gotten inspiration from NIN. They weren't the first to use synths and guitars together, or the first to use computers and tons of effects to completely mangle sounds, but I'd say they were among the first to do it so well and with such emotion. They were also the first band that I saw that remixed their own songs in such an extreme way as to almost make them a new song. So, basically my point is that NIN were real pioneers and I think your anger is misplaced. I can understand your point about "copying" other band's styles - you think it's better to come up with something on your own. I think this is true too, but we can all learn things from other bands at the same time we innovate. Every great producer out there has gotten where he is because he learned from people who were better than him. I doubt any of us would even be making music if we hadn't done some research about our favorite bands and figured out how they do things.

If you say "I'm not going to do things like everyone else", you'll still end up doing things the same as other people who say the same thing. :) It's like saying "I reject groups!", but that puts you in the group of other people who reject groups.

HI

Being serious - if thats ever an even plausible possibility here, I for one would smash my equipment up NOW if I thought all I could ever do is emulate some other poor sod - I am sure we all (?) wish to develop the ideas that have pre-ceeded our own efforts and gain influence from them, but there comes a point where we go do our own thing - in the hope that we 'CREATE' something unique.

I wish to hell I knew where this all came from though!

Shit, it was a bit of general info - wasn't it?

Oh, I hate forums cause you never know who the f... is speaking to who - If you mean me when you say 'you don't give a f**k what I think about you' - I never thought or made an assumption about you or anyone else here in 2 years - how could I know anyone from a bloody forum?

I do know my friends and family - based on a physical experience of give and take, and that I would give up everything I have for people who mean something to me - which could even be a stranger (but you wasn't to know that; was you?).

Flipper.

honestly, i find nothing wrong with copying or imitation outside of a culture that doesn't promote it as a means of social control.

couldn't care less about originality, but i'll lie thru my teeth if that's what it takes to make people want to think about things in non-referential terms.

i couldn't care less if a person wanted to be like another person!

but if 10,000 people want to be like a particular person, then i have a problem, and i'm guessing, if you think about it, you do too..

i live in tucson, arizona. like phoenix, arizona, popular sentiment here is you have to have a car to survive, because the cities are built that way.

you need to think about your shit, because the earth is not infinite.

but yes, i am very arrogant and everything

kinda the easy way out, you pussies :hihi: focus on the issue, don't think big picture
