The problem I have with the industrial scene personally is there's too many 'grown ups' trying to be scary when all they are doing is making a load of noise dressed up like a crap Darth Vader.
Well music's entertainment. No-one complains about grown men dressing up as Darth Vader in the movies.

Personally the problem I have with the industrial scene is that it used to be so f*cking exciting and is now riddled with VNV Nation copycat bands.

As opposed to picking the smallest flaw in everyones posts and not wanting to be anyones 'buddy' ?

Congrats on the gig Bones. Thats something i'd love to do one day, even if it was just once :D

well, that's what I meant, well not crap, cos I never call a band crap, but what I said was that those bands they all sound exactly the same.

Just like all futurepop bands sound the same every rock band sound the same. Do you even like the genre? If you can't hear the different styles in melodies, production and lyrics between those artist, you aren't listening and the only good reason for that would be ignorance or that you don't like that kind of music :) (Dunno what mesh did in that list though)

edit: The best part is that you even used the word "exactly", so we all know that you did not mean what you wrote :)

edit no.2: kmfdm has done some cool shit, but I don't like the same stuff the kmfdm junkies like. Some of the stuff by novakill is cool as well, but not quite my style (bones knows why kinda... :))

.... But I got my special Lou Reed shades for $10 at a Dollar Store? :?

This is actually a interesting thread. I've indeed learned plenty from the great 'Archie Bunker Bones' here. I gotta admit Bones, your name works well for you on many levels... I must admit I thought it was a twist on 'All skin and BONES' - which could be kinda cool too, huh? And considering you play the industrial, Bones fits beautifully with that too. And you didn't have to change a thing! :hihi: f**k, you could just abbreviate your first name to 'War' - and that would be f**king cool too! You lucky big fat c**t! 8) <- $10....

BTW - Quasimidi, WTF did happen to them? They were cool indeed! But so many come and go... Electrix, Gleeman, Waldorf.

... Fruity Loops?

stefan, it's just my opinion. I agree with you partially: Mesh and Covenant may be left out of that list. But I can't find any differences between VNV Nation, Assemblage 23 and the newer stuff by Apoptygma Berzerk. Not saying they're bad. Not saying they may sound different to you! just saying that they sound the same to me.

Ah, there we go :) "sound the same to me" says more about the listener than about the actual music :) I'd say the same about several genres as well. FWIW, I think plenty vnv songs are great, even more apoptygma songs, and I do not like a23 at all basicly.

Post

stefan, of course it's about the listener. I mean, FOR ME it's about the bands sounding the same, but obviously I don't live in a world on my own, so for the others it's about me thinking they sound the same of course.

I'm always very very very respectful with other people's music, just because I know the love I put in my music so I don't see why I should think the rest of the people don't put the same love in what they do.

Anyway i think you take my meaning and I take yours. That doesn't erase the fact that I find all the songs by these bands exactly the same, but well anyway, I like it better than many other bands so...
greetings

You're not alone Origami. ;) I like industrial music, and a bit of Novakill... But I tire quickly of listening to it than most other music. But Bones or anyone can say the same about my weird lo-fi tastes. ;)

But (and here comes the shit storm...) I can take a Giorgio Moroder disco song longer than a Skinny Puppy tune. But yet I respect Skinny Puppy more than Moroder for musical integrity?

What's up with that? :help:

Post

well I do think the same about many hard edge industrial bands, all with the same distorted vocals, many of them seem to me Puppy clones.

But don't touch me the Puppies. They're sacred.

(I'm exagerating, Neither I despise all those bands nor I adore 100% of what Skinny Puppy has released of course)

My all-time favourite band is without a doubt The Legendary Pink Dots.

BONES wrote:I've never been into the scene either. I find it very strange but it seems to be a phase people go through - you see 'em all the time for a couple of years and then they move on. Mostly we just get up and play and I usually wear shorts and t-shirt when I go to a club, as much to get up their noses as anything [they hate shorts, I think they have a thing about shins].
so true, so very true.
i was/am more into darwave than into industrial, but you know, goth/ebm/darkwave/industrial/heavenly voice/whatevereverever/666 :hihi:, there are a lot of mixed clubs with lots of different people trying to look scary :D
and yes, most of them, this includes me, do that for a few years, and then switch to normal clothes (ok, i still wear 95% black clothes, the rest is gray and white :D, and i've got my long hair, but i'm not scary on purpose anymore  ).

but that's no reason to stop listening to the music, or to stop going to the clubs, and may it be just to have fun wattching scary people sometimes
:D

oh, and congrats bones, i've read about your trip to the WGT as well, maybe i'll be there, not sure yet.
