Just remember, if you're planning on boycotting Monster cable (or any other boycott really), you need to contact the company and let them know. It's all well and good to be righteously indignant but unless they are actually aware of how this might impact on their business it doesn't mean much to them. Let them know what cable you'll be using instead.

It really is appalling this behavior.

Sascha,
It seems like they are moving away from the pro audio market already. I was at Circuit City the other day (annoying loud US home audio/appliance/computer store) and I noticed all kinds of Monster Cable products for the home consumer. Power strips, cables for home theaters etc., all packaged in day-glo rainbow colors for the kiddies.

I allready let them know...
But well, in case a boycott would be working indeed, there's not exactly a need to inform them. Because they would just go out of business after a while. Which is what I wish (judging from their history they won't stop f**king with innocent people anyways).
Yeah, that might sound a bit too optimistic as they are rather established... but in case everybody spreads the word...

I think that by now at least 20 000 musicians (quite some of them serious studio owners) should be informed about the case. Should those be as offended as I am, they will spread the information again...
Time for some nice chain reactions!

Oh well - shit!
Do we now have to inform all home theatre users as well?
:D

I have never participated in any boycott or mass emailing before, but this has really got me fired up. I will be contacting Monster Cable, as well as anyone else who may think of buying their products (including GC, MF, ZZounds and other large retailers).

As a business owner all my life, Monster Cable's practices are disgusting.
And all life's fears
Can invade my ears
I can handle it

A little of topic, but can someone explain to me if there is any scientific explanation as to why larger cables work better? It seems that if there was any rationale to this then ALL the internal cables of the amp etc. would have to be of similar diameter to the monster cable. Otherwise isn't it a little like a garden hose coming from the tap followed by a firehose? Please educate me, I've never understood this and therefore only have speaker cables circa Edison.
I cannot play an instrument. I cannot remember melodies. I cannot sing. I have bad timing. I know way too little about counterpoint.

"I mean, why don't you go beat up on the March of Dimes?"

No Joke.

I guess they ought to sue now since Monsters Inc. was a big movie? That's the stupidest thing I have ever seen a company do. I could see if it was Monster Cabble or something like that. So I am going to trademark the word water now, and anything with water in it, I am coming for you. :? :!: :?:  :x  :-o

I'm just discovering this thread; what does M* Cable is really disgusting.
Jason Blevins / Denver Post wrote:[...] a licensing agreement package from Monster Cable suggesting that she pay the wire-maker $1,000 a year and 1 percent of gross sales in exchange for use of the word "monster."
So here is their business plan. Threatening dozen of small companies to get lawsuit they cannot afford, to extort them an income. Small, compared to the lawyer fees, but drops create rivers.

How the US laws can allow this kind of behaviour ? Victims should join together to defend against this crook company.

For people wanting to tell a company how they disagree their business methods, I suggest to write physical letters too. It's longer to do and stamp is not free, but has way more impact than electronic mail.

Regarding the name of our upcoming instrument, it's really an issue. I don't know what we'll do yet, we have to discuss about this with other ohmies and GMedia.

At one point during the discussions, Tognotti told Turner that legal expenses were
not an issue for Monster Cable as “all of their attorneys are on staff and their costs were already
budgeted.” Tognotti also told Turner that “[w]e are now the 800 pound gorilla.” Tognotti
appeared to be suggesting that Monster Cable could afford to run up enormous legal expenses
