Trance IS one of the easiest styles to make, but great Trance on the other hand does require a good chunk of talent.

Post

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and i do not have the "pro" ears of many here.

But what annoys me is that quite clearly people listen from the producers perspective and pick it apart. If you slotted one of these trance tracks into a mix album the listener wouldn't suddenly go "i can tell that this track is made in the bedroom" or some crap.

The mix quality is certainly FAR above the average of people posting their tracks on the net. You hear a lot of stuff that just sounds all mixed into one, no clarity or definition of sounds at all, just a swamp. If this guy has pretty much nailed crisp mixing skills it by the age of 17 (using low-spec software) then i say bloody well done mate.

it's all subjective really. christ some people (alright two) actually (sort of) like the (okay one track, and then only bits of it) music I make.

I have a better sounding host
this has been discussed many times ... and "scientifically" speaking there is NO better sounding host than other.
I was believing that also when I was young
Then I finally understood that if all the songs are done with buzz were sounding like crap, with a thin, metallic sound, that's because I was unable to correctly use eq, comp and other effects, and to mix properly my songs :D
Some hosts directly add some internal effects on the sound, so one may think it sounds better or different. Buzz does nothing, so it is up to the user to get a proper sound from buzz. That's very difficult, and that's why the songs done with buzz and discussed here are so appreciated by buzz users like me, and by those who like trance also apparently :D

Yeah, Buzz doesn't do anything to the output of the sound. No compression, no limiters (just hard clipping if you let the signal clip). Most buzz synths sound crappy because they are very basic and have no built in effects - it's up to you to make them sound good. Some have aliasing. But, since you can use VST's it's really a moot point.

I actually think the key might be careful layering and/or EQ of multiple buzz synths.

I know that people ares till coding buzz synths so some of the newer ones may be a lot better than the older ones. And the sheer number of effedts available, i think you could make a lot of good modular-style patches by layering things with lots of
FX.

Not everyones favourite approach i know, but hey if it works it works. Whatever our trance producing friend is doing to standard buzz synths is working a treat!!

Thats exactly what i thought theo mate.

If there's one thing thats got to be offensive, its when someone takes music like this (thats clearly has heart and soul poured into it) and say its a piece of piss.

If its so easy i challenge anyone hhere to go grab a copy of buzz and make some trance thats as good quality as this.

Go on. Its easy after all.

Easymode - not a personal dig at you, sure you meant it as a light-hearted remark. Just be careful of dismissing the hard work of other.
oh i get REALLY defensive about those comments Quincy. I have been hearing them all my life. "anyone who knows how to use a computer can make that electronic stuff"

BULLSHIT! you still need musical ability.

and dance music is sooo hard to arrange, because it's typicaly not verse/choruse/verse/bridge.chorus.

you HAVE to arrange a tune that will keep people ON THE DANCEFLOOR interested for at least 4 minutes, as WELL as making it something pleasing to listen to in the car, whilst exercising, etc etc.

Here is a challenge to all haters and dissers of trance and dance/house in general. download buzz, and if you produce anything in the league of what we have just heard, i'll NEVER post at KVR again.

:hihi:
hehe this reminds me of my high school music teacher from many years back..

he has a degree in music and has been highly successful in his job (even offered positions at universities) yet when we got to talking about different genres of music in class one day he went, 'oh electronic and dance music.. nahh thats not really music its made from a small box that sits on one side of the studio and does all the music for you.. theres no talent involved" :o

you see this elitism around a lot.. kvr is definately no exception. When someone says 'trance' here it immediately gets critiqued at a higher level than other forms. halfassed amateur rock is just as good as well produced and highly worked on trance here  its sad.

I thought it was about music in general and the community getting together to learn and enjoy for everyone else.. instead kvr just ends up being like everywhere else.. nothing different nothing new.

to the actual music though.. I listened to the remix that seemed to be the most popular and consider it good.. real good actually. and the seashells is great very uplifting and moving.. I try to write this stuff and know what goes into writing something like these songs.. there is a lot of detail and work that most dont really hear on first listen :)

its not create 64 note progression, add arp, loop for 6 minutes.. if you're in that mindset then congratulations, you've just fell prey to beliving in an unfair stereotype.

still.. if he really only used buzz (instruments and all) to write that.. then it is the best trance I've heard from buzz hands down. and I've been around buzz (well off and on) since it was originally released.. actually for production/progression-wise its just as good as most 'professional' songs I enjoy.

though like mentioned before.. I'm sure its not the tools hes using but its him thats the talent.. fit him with cubase, orion, sonar, or any other host and hes going to be able to pop out well produced music regardless.

in any event, thanks for the link.. I'm downloading all of them for a cd :) great music that inspires me to keep trying harder :)

Being a bedroom producer isn't an insult. Lots of highly-respected professional artists are.

Furthermore:

Trance Sucks.
Gerry Cueto Sucks.
Buzz Tracker Sucks.

I am a Buzz addict.

Well I've only listened to a couple of these tunes.

They are very very derivative of artists like Sash, Paul Van Dyk and Chicane. I definitely sense Chicane in there alot.

That's not necessarily an insult - it actually makes me like them. I wish I could be that derivative :hihi:.

As for the mixing - some of the mixing is off, some of it's very good. I wouldn't mind being able to produce mixes this crap.

He gets some great pounding bass into these tunes too - I can feel it in my gut in some of the tunes.

All in all - I can see some weaknesses - but there are alot of strengths.

Don't give a crap for the bedroom bullshit - couldn't care less where he does it - although some of these are crying out for some female vocals, where is Tina Cousins when you need her.
