Are you taking requests? RAWHIDE!!

:D

Oh, yeah--I use an indigo. Seems to work with no hiccups for me.
it's only been 9 years since I played live gigs. but uh, hopefully coffee and adrenaline will get me through.
thanks for the tip on the indigo

mbox? indigo?
anything?
dunno, but personally i wouldn't do it. not for "those sort" of gigs anyway - well, you'll know what i mean. very droppable/stealable/stand-on-able/spill-beer-on-able/knock-off-a-stand-able/forget-to-pack-away-able is a laptop. if someone tries to run off with a big red nord electro, you'll probably see which way they went...

i personally would feel much less comfortable with leaving a laptop/controller/interface etc set up on stage prior to a pub/small club -type gig. and i certainly wouldn't fancy setting it up 5 minutes before i'm due to play.

the other advantage to hardware is (slightly easier) stomp-box fun! :D

i used to play my (real) clavinet/rhodes/continental through wah-wah's, phasers, fuzz-faces etc

sorry if my advice is a bit old-school...

I was going to say do one of those bubble-boy enclosed environments. But if you made the bubble out of kevlar and surrounded it with sandbags . . . hell, you could be come FAMOUS! Everyone needs a schtick.

So, I'm looking at getting some equipment to cover the sounds.
motif, triton are the only ones I've heard about lately..don't know what's out there, haven't looked in years.
suggestions?
Congrats on your live gig!

Those 2 are good for live use and cover a good range of sounds. A friend of mine I played with bougth a yamaha S-90 which has the motif's sounds and the sounds were pretty good. Good organs, clavinets, pianos and a nice piano touch on the keyboard. The triton is also a good performance synth, I've seen it so many times live.

That's quite a range

Who goes to this place, old dancing hippie Texas blues dancers with Brit Lit degrees?

well..after furiously searching ebay all week trying to come up with something workable, I finally decided to get a new master keyboard and use some of my old equipment..just to see how this gig is going to go (just found out we're also getting a female singer!) trouble is, my emu piano module won't make any sound. It's getting the midi signal, but no sound comes forth! I'm tired already! I'm trying to make arrangments to get the Nord from a dealer in Miami. Gotta have it by Monday!

Post

have you actually demo'd the nord?

Post

I haven't demoed anything but a trinity and motif.
birmingham has NO good keyboard store..

sadly, no!
The store I work for used to carry a lot of cool stuff,
but several years ago decided to just specialize in pianos and organs.
Saturday, I went to a store that's well known among gigging musicians around here..well the guitar players that must be..I went in asking for a midi controller keyboard , and the salesman said 'what's that?'

hi bluedad

i've a nord electro 2. it's great but limited. motif sounds great, too (our new piano player uses it).

If you can, stretch for motif (although NE2 is sooooo light to carry around).

Word of advice: you'll need a reverb on the NE, it has no delay or reverb fx on it.
