@fractalism
I see what you're saying.
What I do with demos is essentially the same thing, I make songs with them. If the song works, then i buy the synth/effect. If not, or I can't fit it into a song, then I don't.
I'm just saying that trying to sell the product without first paying for the tool seems a bit wrong to me.

Excuse the white noise near the end, but this puppy doesn't appear to be for sale yet

Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

Do I do this?fractalism wrote:Why do some devs. insist that you can't use the demo for commersial music?
Well, I wrote my license agreement back in the days being busy to release More Feedback Machine. I've been pretty new to this and so I just looked at other licenses. No big deal. As nobody ever reads them anyway, I more or less copied it for the other plugins without thinking about what it says.
I've heard about a shitload of violations of MFM's license agreement, but I couldn't care less... (Brian T. told me that he uses it. That was before I knew who he was...)
But now that I think about it... no, I wouldn't like people to produce commercial music with demo versions. I'd rather follow mjones4th's argumentation.
Some people produced songs (not commercial ones tho) using Zebra demo with extensive freezing, 2 or 3 of these made it to a demo song on my website.
(One popular request is to be able to un-register Zebra, because people had already written songs with Zebra's demo limitation: After 10 minutes it plays a stupid chord progression rather than the notes you ask it to play
Well, I wouldn't mind if you produced a song and post it here, no problem. But I'd be pissed if I heard a VA/Zebra/Whatsoever preset on the radio from a group who doesn't own it.
Cheers,

Am I missing an easy way to load up a whole bank of presets rather than just one at a time? I'm too impatient to get to the next great sound to be doing all this mouse clicking

Derek.

Actually, my engine doesn't like the concept of banks*. But as by popular request, I'll add up/down buttons to the left rim and key commands soonDerek up North wrote:Am I missing an easy way to load up a whole bank of presets rather than just one at a time? Cheers,
* in my world of thinking, folders/directories are banks. Thus you can organize them in the Explorer/Finder which I find pretty comfortable...

There is a "LOAD" button on the upper-left side of the UI. It opens a browser that lets you preview the sounds.Derek up North wrote:Am I missing an easy way to load up a whole bank of presets rather than just one at a time? f**k me dead! The presets sound a lot like NEOkILLER. Really. Except at about 1/10 the CPU usage. Interface looks pretty enough but I couldn't work out what anything does just by looking/clicking at it. Also, a few presets seemed silent, even ones with "303" in the name.

It's OK - I just had a Homer Simpson "Doh!" moment when I spotted the "load" and "save" buttons on the left hand side of the GUI.Urs wrote:Actually, my engine doesn't like the concept of banks. All that eye candy was obviously keeping me focussed on the centre rather than the edges

I just give it a look some minutes ago. Testet the filter plug itself. Nice work Urs: I am impressed by your new concept of filter motion
Besides it sounds fat and smooth.
Oh not to forget there are two others left

And that's about as close to a compliment from BONES as I've heard any synth get!BONES wrote: f**k me dead! The presets sound a lot like NEOkILLER. Really. Except at about 1/10 the CPU usage. Pig's arse! I like lots of synths, I just can't see any value in what people ask for 'em.

after a quick play ...
... the synth is nice enough but no great shakes IMHO ... the filter is VERY cool and could spell the end of multilens on this box ... but am i the only one to REALLY LOVE the EQ ?!?
(good job ive got a bonus coming in this months pay packet)

it doesn't make sense.fractalism wrote:Obviously it's the sound that counts, but if the track relies hevily on any one sound, it's hard to really "test" it if you aren't allowed to use it in a commercial recording.mjones4th wrote:Well, I do something similar when testing demo plugs, except my ears are the judge, not the profitability of the song... IMO that's a bit underhanded.fractalism wrote:One thing that gets me tho' is:
Why do some devs. insist that you can't use the demo for commersial music? It's kinda hard to make tunes with this synth and wanting to test them in a serious "enviroment" with money and stuff involved...tell you what, why can't I make a few tracks with this thing ,and If they get a commersial release, (that is,the music works) and then I'll buy it?
let's say I'm VST instrument developer and I spend a lot of time
making synth. then I release it and saying you can use it as long as
you can for free
unless you use it in commercially released music.
what if nobody decided to use it commercially?
I don't make any money.
it's just like saying give me $10000 protools rig, I will use it
as long as I can, and if I make some money with it then I will pay for it.
if not forget about it.
purpose of the demo is for testing. you don't go to
Guitar Center or whatever and saying let me take this triton for a while
to see if I can make some music and money with it.
same thing goes for software. you test it with demo and if you like it
you buy it.
and what if your commercially released music made only small amount money
and if you pay for the instruments you used, you don't get any profit.
are you still gonna pay for the instruements?
I'm sorry if I sound too angry.
