There have been some posts about finding Project5 online and on the cheap...$199 is the cheapest I've found. Is that about the lowest price I'll find at a US-based website or store?

Just my two...
would you mind elaborating? I dont understand what you mean by the "mechanical feel" of WDM drivers.

I know it's not right to make these subjective statements mostly because everyone's systems vary. I've got regular Sony P4 1.6(northwood)laptop with an Echo Indigo soundcard - so It's all common hardware. On my system Cubase & Live4 are rock solid and basically 'gapless audio' engines using ASIO at 128samples latency. A pop or click or 'engine dropout' are never to be found unless I pushed the CPU too far. I find this setting very usable for playing/recording a realistic sampled piano in realtime - basically feels the same as when I had a Yamaha Motif.

Switch to WDM and I can bring the latency 'number' even lower, but it no longer 'responds' to playing like a hardware synth would, but like how I would expect a Computer to respond...somewhat mechanical - very subjective I admit, just try it and make your own determination! But ASIO was created specifically for music application and WDM was created by Microsoft. But my determination is purely off 'feel'.

Also I never understood why with Cakewalk Sonar why when I use my PCR-50 to control patch changes for my VST's the audio 'glitches' and 'dropouts' are common. This is a known problem and doesn't happen in Cubase or Live either - but Edirol and Cakewalk are supposed to have 'joined forces' - that's just whack IMO. I'm just not a fan their code or their marketing and I really wanted to because in paper their stuff looks great and is priced okay.

also bear in mind that P5 v2 will function as a Rewire host,so there's no real reason to take up arms and sides and such.

best of all worlds

I just downloaded the demo, loaded some midi files in it, assigned them instruments, hit play, and it crashes. I tried about 4 times.
Has any P5 users had this problem?

There used to be a problem with windows service pack 2 and the dep settings. You must allow for the dep setting to run cakewalk or disable the dep setting all together. DEP is the "data execution prevention" thing that prevents programs from running in windows service pack 2.

Does anyone know if P5 comes with Slicy and Fill-in drummer? It's listed as a midi effect in the demo but it won't load. I got the demo to work with 3 midi tracks with nPulse and Psyn. It peaked at 21% with just 3 tracks. I think it crashed before because I had 5 tracks loaded. I wonder if V2 is better on the CPU?
