As I say, it's a only a suspicion because I can't know for sure.
But perhaps the psychology behind always-needing-fresh-software has a lot to do with the inability to write decent music with what's available.
And always needing fresh software in the belief it will somehow "make-me-better".
Trainspotting software IMO is the opposite hobby to making music.

1. I tried it today. I went to the police station and asked if they had any commercial software I could steal but they didn't.rawcan wrote:Come on,
don't declassify yourself like that. I'm german, too. Try this: Go to your favourite police station and steal some software in front of their eyes. And then call me a fascist again, OK? I will visit you in jail. Lübeck isn't that far away.![]()
Have fun, FRitz
So what's the point?
2. I can't declassify myself any more. My name says it all.
3. And I know that you're german. Your name says it all

----Not to add fuel to the fire or anything, but there's just almost too many sides to pirated software to even get a mental grip on. For instance, look on Ebay and see people selling warez programs, that makes me the sickest,at least shut up and don't spread your disease if you must steal ya know.
----I just don't even feel there's an arguement to be made,is using cracked warez stealing,of course, how bad is stealing to you, well, that's a personal thing I suppose. If someone wants to be a thief, well,I can't stop them,I can only patrol my own behavior and try to set an example.
----And just to siderail this topic a touch,if the government(s) ever really get involved on the computernet, their first obligation, well, after hanging, tarring, and feathering all adware/spyware/malware/scumware profiteers, should be to come up with a once and for all free-to-the-public-and-to-businesses,software protection/registration base. Why should some people get things for free when others have to pay, everyone should have to pay their own way,and the government is so good at taking tax money, they should provide equal protection to consumers and companies alike in the digital realm. In other words,we already are paying a bit more because of those who steal,I'd just as soon that extra $ I pay go to making sure they can't steal, makes more sense to me.

Or the other way round: How many warez users do you know (besides you?)? I know quite some that sadly back up the statement Urs made, so...
P.S. Some of them even work at well known audio software companies.![]()

I know plenty of pirates (and I'm not one, thanks).
Most of the pirates I know don't have a MIDI controller or anything better than an SBLive! that came with their computer. Most of them have pretty crappy computers, and the ones with good computers got them from their parents.
Just to reiterate, I know FAR more pirates than I know people who actually buy their software.

I'm just curious to know HOW MANY of you have actually Paid for you version of XPhome or Pro.
Not finger pointing here but I know heaps of people that don't use warez but quite proudly brag about not Paying for XP (which seems a bit hypocritical IMHO) .............
Sorry to iake it off on tangent I generally avoid threads of this nature like the plague as they tend to degenerate into very heated arguements.

dramsenik ... we have a lot of ppl come to KvR and boast about their warezing abilities.
It's not a new thing.
So I repeat my quote:
My suspicion is this "I-can-download-a-crack-of-whatever-I-want" hubris leads to big software collections, but very little music making.
If this doesn't apply to you then fine. I'm not trying to rude ... simply state a point of view.
btw I listened to your Oskar page. Sounds like you have a lot of fun

My thoughts:
In todays world computer parts are cheap, cheaper than cheap, computer power is on the rise and you have limitless capabilities in term of computer hardware.
Warez however is free. Plain and simple for 2days culture, no penalties and 'cheap means' to obtain/use warez makes it more logical to non-law abiding people. If you can obtain something for free software wise chances are the majority of people will do it.
Even with freeware and cheap software made by smaller companies it is still easy to obtain warez and people will continue to do so.
As for people creating warez, you will always have people willing to crack software. The more security you put on,-> the more attention it brings to the cracking community-> the more crackers want to be able to crack it in order to gain respect in thier community.
Same (in a sense) to KVR. People post in the music cafe and get advice, show off thier latest beat and so on, it is no different in the cracking community.
If someone was able to make something then somebody is able to break it, it is not the same as "unscrambaling an egg" as computer code can ALWAYS be broken down to its basic level and no one can protect computer data unless you place the hardware in a box with a lock and key...and even then people will smash it.
The majority of people do not have the same morals when it comes down to digital media. It is not the same as stealing a car as there are no forceable penalties for the average computer user when it comes to stealing data. The police have no time for petty people who download software only to delete it days later or download something else the next day. Whether or not people would buy PC software based on its price if they werent able to download it is something no one will ever no as people have different interpretations of expensive, some people live in povery, some people are rich and some people honestly dont care about "computer" crime.
How many people every day video-tape a TV programme. No one complains about that.

@kevvvvv:
i didn't want to sound harsh either, english is not my first langage and i learned it mostly by watching DVDs in english and using forums...
That being said, i was trying to show some other point of view about this dark side whith my personnal experience with it.
In my case this ended in some more cash for developers. Which is maybe paradoxical but true and maybe i'm not the only one who use it like this? (I hope...)
But nevertheless i'm glad to have this option. I told before something about PACE protected softwares: well ...that didn't stop me to buy the product(s) and use what seems best for my computer's health.
As i said before this wole thing is just about ethic.
Thanks for visiting Oskar!
