Out of interest, how are you all defining "Mastering"?

BBE->reverb if used (either Reaktor's Spacemaster 2, TC Works' Native Essentials or Wave Arts Panorama)->compressor/limiter (Reaktor's Flatblaster 2 or Sound Forge's Wave Hammer).

that'll be making a huge difference to the balance of your mix.

i've considered using fire set to 1 over a whole mix, but for me it still affected the balance a little too much, with all the irs.

VW (jus as a limiter)

personally i use mastering purely for loudness, because i havent found anything that can give me the punch i want yet, except md3 which i'll never be able to afford.

i used to use elephant 2 for limiting, which is the most transparent thing i've ever heard but for my music (hard dance most the time) i'm worried that it pumps slightly, so have gone back to VW (noisey but solid).

I am simply trying to understand what you chaps/chapesses are working towards - what you are aiming to achieve and how close you get to it, etc..

A little ORION's Platinum Reverb for sparkle and then DigitalFishPhones ENDORPHIN and PSP MixSaturator. Cheap as chips and twice as cheerful.

1 - Soniformer 2 - for spectral balance (almost "better balance" preset)
2 - VW - for the sound
3 - Firium - for a little (random) EQ (as i f i know how to do that !!!).
4 - Elephant - for the level

What plugins do you have in your mastering rig?
