Is Project5 v2 Better Than Live 4 or Reason 3 (IYHO)?

THE biggest differences between Live 3 & 4 are the things that Live 4 have that are missing in Live 3
Can I use that as a sig?

I think that Ableton are onto something here...
I've noticed that whenever the number changes in the name, there are also some differences in the software itself

MIDI Recording
Open Format for VST Instruments
Ableton's own soft instruments
etc.
BTW, Live 2 & 3 have only a few differents between them. But if you're already happy with using another host for you midi programming needs, then Live 3 would be good enough for audio/loop sequencing only (and it's a lot more fun than Acid Pro, IMHO).

I think that part of the reason that people post in these threads and seem like fan-boys is that there is a fair amount of disinformation in threads that become like this one. That's being said, it is only natural for people who do have a fondness for a certain anything (beer, software, rodents...) will always chime in to point out where things are factually incorrect.
Just my .02.
Case in point.....LIVE3 and LIVE4 are basically the same.....this is just so factually incorrect that it needs remediation. I tried P5v.2 and honestly, there were things that I liked about it. But I am already in the LIVE cycle, and as I have grown accustomed to working in it, I will probably upgrade to 5 instead of making a leap.
The other thing that kills me.......is the need to shake down Ableton for upgrading so often (and yes, us paying for it). Be more like the Props. What, and fall behind the rest of the world (as far as being an open sequencing environment?). Or, the upgrade to 4 to 5 should be free, something like a 4.5 because it happened so quickly. There was a lot more time between P5v.1 and P5v.2, therefore you would expect substantial improvement. Ableton has been adding people and coding and gotten us a product that will be fantastic, given a fair amount would have been expected in LIVE4, perhaps if it hadn't been the companies first venture into VSTi's?
Also remember LIVE is Ableton's only product, with the exception of maybe Operator which is closed to the LIVE environment.
But to each his own, as long as the music is flowing.
BTW, I tried the FantomX6 yesterday (even though it is $2900, and very out of my price range), did I cry because Roland priced it so high???????
Damn it sounded good though.

Heh - I got my Fantom X6 floor model on sale at Guitar Center for $1600!anti-banausic wrote: BTW, I tried the FantomX6 yesterday (even though it is $2900, and very out of my price range), did I cry because Roland priced it so high???????

It blows almost everything else out of the water.. except my Motif ES Rack!
That said, I'm not happy with my host any more.. sigh. I might have to try Live out. I do all my sequencing on the Fantom now so I don't need much MIDI support, I do need good, clean audio though (and plenty of tracks for it)! Maybe it's demo download time.. that and Blow Fools M-Powered.
ps. I like beer. Rodents I can give or take. Software is a necessary evil.

Hey wollyloach, which model fantom did you get (I tried the 88 key one, semi-weighted, mmmmmmm).
I tried at GC as well. Wish I could get the floor model for that....Maybe I will have to go shake em down.

I checked project5 demo and I found out that p5v2 cannot handle multitimbral synths properly: multitimbral synths are handled by layers
BUT:"Each new lane that you add to a track is controlled by the same volume and pan controls as the original track"
AND "You can display and edit different automation parameters in separate lanes, but the parameters apply to all the lanes (it's still only one track)."
AND "an original track and all of its track lanes use the same output on a multi-output instrument."
AND "you can only patch Project5's Arpeggiator into an original track, but the Arpeggiator affects all lanes of the track."
these issues make multitimbral synths virtualy useless....what a pity..

HI
I have never used a softsynth multitimberally, did not have any choice when using a hardware synth but IMO this is of no importance whatsoever with software - to open a second instance is really no big deal.
BUT, if you use P5 and it is a big deal then go over to the Cake forum - I am sure it is something that would be looked at come up-date time.
Flipper.

I don't use synths multitimbrally either... but I'm interested to know, is it possible to in Live 4? (I imagaine it is, or multitimbral people would have been shouting for it... but I'm not sure how this fits into Live's routing paradigm)...
Please advise ... thanks!

I dont use p5v2..I only have demo. but this issue should really be solved. p5v2 is quite nice and I considered using it instead of Live but...you know...one (for example) kontakt instance per instrument can pretty hit your cpu.

So should I just route one MIDI track to the next in a chain?
