True! Couldn't agree more....

BTW Fluffy_little_something, Just read about a new app called Leaping Tiger that's designed to help gamers connect to other games and play the same game!

Maybe something music centric will be developed next. Could be useful (depending on perspective). Just adding after seeing many of your posts on similar topic.

I only read about it and sounds great but hopefully it won't become some creepy pick up app.

I wouldn't call skinning superficial.

When skinning a user will really learn the interface, all the nuts and bolts, and it can as such lead to better understanding of how the functions in a plugin interacts.
But then you're making a cases for why everyone, including the amateur beginner skinner (band name?) should also be allowed to post! :ud:

I have no dog in this fight... Just couldn't resist. :P

Are they not allowed to post?

Why can't they post?

Did I miss something?

Actually, this is not the place for the "official" contest, AFAIK. This is just a forum thread, where everyone can participate. The contest is runned by AQ alone, through his own site. There, he has all the control. Here, he has no rights, although I can understand he may feel disturbed if someone posts a skin that falls behind his "standards". Yet, that doesn't give him the right to insult anyone. Passionate or not (and God knows I am a passionate guy), he has to make an effort to express himself in a more civilized way.

And I feel free to speak about that, since I think I had the opportunity to talk with and about him during the previous Beta (1.2), when I was already thinking in buying the synth. I ended up not buying it, simply because of the look of it (although I liked the backgrounds of Scott Kane, and thought that they actually improved it - BTW: I know Scott Kane is considered an outlaw around here, but he is a really talented guy, even if sometimes with a tendency for the "flashy" look, and I wish he also would take part in the challenge.

The skin he did for the ME80 from Gunnar is simply great.

+1 it would be crazy if a banned user like the Admiral should participate in this thread by proxy

You mean like an online multi-player DAW? :)

No, like a match service.... It could have its own algo for finding other musicians with similar interests. Maybe it could be based on music interests, music styles, instrument skill/knowledge, years of experience, level of interest in music or desired outcome of music production and geographical location for the optional choice if proximity is an issue. It obviously doesn't exist yet, but it could be useful.

You mean the way it works in terms of music? I doubt it, frankly. I get to know the workings of a synth by using it a lot.
In my view a GUI skin is like a dress. A woman can change her dress, but she is still the same person underneath, because clothes are superficial.

That is of course true. But to compare, I have learnt the workings of a computer by using it a lot, but I have learnt even more by opening up computers and seeing what is inside ;)

Oh, I see. They could implement that on KVR :D
Basically like messengers 10 years ago (Odigo etc.), but with music criteria as filters.

OK, but do you really get to look inside the synth in musical terms? I doubt developers allow that as the code is their trade secret so to speak. I think what happens is that Admiral Profanity etc. simply expose the superficial, graphics-related part of their code in a very limited, abstract way and provide a simple interface that allows laymen to change superficial aspects and parameters.

Is that response in reference to the analogy of a woman in a dress? I'm not sure how to interpret your response.

You do if you got Reaktor

Of course!

If you start peeling of the layers of this beauty for example, you never know what you gonna end up with :D

OK. SE and SM as well I suppose (if you get the dev environment), but the vast majority of plugins are not anything like that, but utterly proprietary and sealed off.

With a hardware synth, especially an analog one, I suppose you would indeed learn something about the internal technology by removing the case. But hardware is very different.
