Why did you leave Studio One?

Same here. I’ve skipped version six for now.Crossinger wrote: Thu Mar 23, 2023 5:46 amIf V6 doesn‘t excite you, then vote with your wallet.Kalamata Kid wrote: Wed Mar 22, 2023 8:51 pm Looks like I will be buying even though V6 did not excite me much. You are not forced to always stay up to date. To do justice to the thread title: I will be temporarily moving away from Studio One development. V5 works well and I hope for V7 in 2024 or 2025.

Have you seen what's in 6.1? It's almost as much again as was in 6. It's very hard not to see the value in upgrading now.

They just need to support Hermode Tuning, and revamp the way automation works now.
We need automation clip containers and the ability to change the destination track/plugin/parameter of existing automation data.
It should work the way MIDI data does.
Imagine if you had to cut and paste all of your MIDI data to a new track if you wanted to change the VST instrument that plays it. Now image that the MIDI notes just sat exposed in the arranger window, and got messed up every time you clicked on the MIDI track. That's how automation works in Studio One right now.

I'd actually really like it if the MIDI notes just sat in the Arranger Window. It would eliminate the need for a piano roll and make it just like my old Korg workstations. I like the way you can zoom in in Cubase and edit your MIDI in the Arranger, without having to go to the piano roll. The Piano Roll has always seemed like an unnecessary extra step in the process to me.

Whoosh for me if it's satire but, I wonder how are more colors and Lyrics improvements considered a good value.BONES wrote: Thu Mar 23, 2023 8:46 am Have you seen what's in 6.1? It's almost as much again as was in 6. It's very hard not to see the value in upgrading now.
Unless you are using video track heavily, this is a meh upgrade.
I expect a browser upgrade from them, I hope they do it soon.

That would be really nice indeed. Although I think the piano roll gets useful for certain functions like scale highlighting, quantization etc, and specially for people who work more with a mouse and a qwerty keyboard, rather than a midi controller, because we usually need to change the velocity of notes using a mouse, as they've been drawn in using the mouse, they're all the same velocity, so can sound a little too robotic at times. Velocity is just one example. Having all that available in the arranger window would make it a little too cluttered, I think. But yes, basic functionality or moving notes around directly in the arranger window would be nice. I also hoped that they'd have added midi data zoom (like they have for audio zoom) in version 6 & in 6.1 otherwise, but unfortunately, they did not, we got more colors insteadBONES wrote: Mon Mar 27, 2023 11:23 pm I'd actually really like it if the MIDI notes just sat in the Arranger Window. I do everything in the sequencer with a mouse. I don't see how it becomes any more difficult if that functionality is transferred to the main window.
So what, it's f**king free, FFS. But if you add these features to what's in 6.0, upgrading from 5.x starts to look like much better value than it did.Fornicras wrote: Tue Mar 28, 2023 1:15 pmUnless you are using video track heavily, this is a meh upgrade.
Looks like you're shit out of luck, then, doesn't it? If you can't understand why they spend their time adding new features, rather than working on things that are perfectly fine as they are, there is f**k-all hope for you, I'm afraid.I expect a browser upgrade from them, I hope they do it soon.

Upgrading my perpetual licence every two years feels like a bad deal now. I'm seeing more content walled off behind the subscription model, unless I want to pay for extras that other DAWs include by default.
Updates don't add things I want (not an atmos enthusiast) and the aggressive push to subscription leaves me feeling cold about the whole ecosystem. Prices are going up for a lesser experience IMO.

1. stability - constant crashes, updated plugins, presonus would tell me to reach out to developers of plugins developers of plugins would tell me to reach out to presonus. logic got sandboxing in 10.7 and i started trying it before you know i finished a song in it and kinda just started using it.
2. s1 has limited tools especially compared to logic which probably has the most stock effects of any daw.
3. the damn channel / instrument solo weirdness with instrument tracks. maybe there is a macro to have it be a single button to solo an instrument track but my gosh.
4. safe solo and sidechaining just another weird feature that i hated
5. browser sucks - logic browser is barely better though granted. (option up and option left in s1 in browser are huge to know for cleaning clutter with a lot of folders open, have to have browser selected)
6. i can use s1 for big melodyne harmonies still and bounce them to logic.
7. logic has granular sampler now
8. logics sampler has built in pitch tuning. i dont use this to overtune kicks or anything like that but i do use it if im trying to use some melodic percussion and its so quick and easy. isn't as good at melodyne but it gets it right a lot of the time and you dont need to be a theory genius to hear its not in key with your song when it doesnt work.
9. logics step sequencer is better
10. logics swing is easier to work with i think s1s is better if you have the toolbox downloaded with all of those swings but its kinda like abletons where i find it very tedious to use swing.
11. Macro system is mid - automation: why if i bind 5 things onto macro knob 1 do i get 5 automation lanes. why cant it be like ableton and logic and probably bitwig where there is 1 lane for the macro. also sometimes it doesnt work if you dont have the lanes for the paramters the macro uses already added to the track. Min-Max values: doesn't allow you to type in the min or max value of the macro.
i miss track list in the piano roll the most. logic sucks at this and multi track midi editing. also i love the sound variations it was so easy.
all of this being said, i keep my s1 subscription, as said for harmonies which is still a go to as i have the top melodyne which makes harmonies and ara integration perfect. but i genuinely love presonus. ive used s1 since v2. i use to make content about s1 in v2 and v3 on youtube. I think right now my tide has just shifted towards logic. but s1 is the only other daw i could ever work in from start to finish. I wouldn't be surprised if they do something crazy for v7 which is really the first full release probably fender has been a part of for the whole cycle.
edit: 12: i cant believe i forgot but the qwerty keyboard hanging notes when you adjust a vst parameter with 3rd party instruments or effects when playing a note on qwerty keyboard. if your mobile this is so annoying.

You can sing as many hymns on Logic as you want... as long as it requires this silly hardware dongle = no way!qtheerearranger wrote: Mon Feb 19, 2024 10:11 pm 1. stability - constant crashes, updated plugins, presonus would tell me to reach out to developers of plugins developers of plugins would tell me to reach out to presonus. logic got sandboxing in 10.7 and i started trying it before you know i finished a song in it and kinda just started using it.

Studio One has the best browser of any DAW, I listen to all my music and stream Soundcloud from the Studio One Browser. Listen bus plugins, midi file play using vst's, fast, delete and rename. I will agree the open folder issue sucks, I need to create a ticket for that so thanks for reminding me.
