Hanglow wrote:Recently bought a brand new Vintage V62 for £100 off ebay. Real bargain as the wilkinson hardware is certainly a cut above squier level. The fret work left something to be desired though, I had to do a level on it. Can't complain really as they are £200 in the shops.

Anyway, a good platform for any other bargain/cheap guitar lovers in the UK and EU :D
my baritone is a squire tele custom but I replaced every part including strap buttons and even the ferrels, the neck came from warmoth, they make baritone necks for teles and other guitars. I put Duncan humbuckers in it that I already had so the total cost was right around 500 bux :tu:

I highly doubt it's a broken truss rod  It might just be a loose nut behind the guitar...and by that I do not mean the guitar's nut or any hardware on it :hihi:

Seriously, my first guess would be whammy related
It does seem like something is loose. Anyways, your idea is a good one and sometime in the next 24 hours I'm going to try and do that.
here ya go (yay, something constructive with my mic  )

this was me shaking with the mic aimed at the nut. It's exactly the same with the nut clamps on.

what kind of access do you have to the nut on the truss rod? The beginning sounds odd but towards the end it sounds a bit like a washer between a nut and an anchor point.

what type of truss rod is in the neck

the single rod

or double

When you shake it do you feel anything, and while you're at it check that the machine head nuts are tight as well as the screws holding the locking nut in.

It's got me baffled and tbh one of my troubleshooting strengths has always been indentifying noises

Wow, great room !

Sorry, no idea about the issue.
The only thing I know is that sound travels well in a guitar, so Dean might be right that the problem could be located in the body too.

Does the truss rod work correctly ?

Edit: Hink has a similar suspicion, I see ...

Pretty sure it's a single, and yes it does feel like something is shaking.

okay try this, put one finger in one ear, stand on just the opposite foot then hop up and down in a circle while holding the guitar...tell me what direction you are facing when it's the loudest...this should be done outside your house during the day.

seriously though, something somewhere is loose but without being able to feel it it's tough. I actually have a stethoscope and that would be my next test, you could try holding your ear to it while shaking it and maybe you narrow down the origin...there isn't a ground wire rattling off the tremolo springs is there, as I'm typing this it could be a wire rattling.

Why don't you add a crossroads, full moon and gallows ? :-o

No, seriously, hibidy, what about the trussrod's functionality ?
