Well, this is the difference between explicit and implicit. It's like when an album comes out from a band that's been working on for 10 years. The hype/internal expectation has been set impossibly high.Crackbaby wrote: From yoru soundcloud description:Really. After reading in this thread, those are the two points you come up with ..?There's been a lot of bad feeling about this synth, especially on the KVR forums. This is for two reasons in my opinion.
1) It's been in development since the ark sailed
2) Everything else they've done has been a faithful version of the synth in question.![]()
I have read since release and i haven't seen anyone complain on development time or that expectations were high because of it.
It will colour your opinion. And sorry, but that kind of thing will. I think it's coloured some more than others. Personally I think this thread would look quite different if d16 hadn't announced SHOITOR back in the day and had just mentioned this 3 months ago instead.
I guess this is why a lot of manufacturers keep their mouths shut until something is pretty much ready for release.
But that's just what I think.. like you say..
Really? Well the 909 is pretty much a 909, the 808, the 808, the 303 is pretty much a 303 with a couple of whistles on, the 606 is a 606 but with some extra tweakable parameters.Point two i don't get at all.
But the 101 is less like a 101 and is something much bigger, and due to this the 101-ness of it gets a bit lost in translation.
And this thread is full of comparisons to the 101 when it doesn't feel like a 101 at all.
In fact if you use it like a 101 it's really quite dull.
I've not mentioned specific people and I was working more off a general feeling than specifics. There's nothing wrong with complaining.I suppose that my complaints are a part of the "bad feeling". In no way has my complaints been about your two points. It's "in your opinion" though and you're free to have yours of course.
Not at all, the demo limitation is stupid and a bad design. Especially with something with that many layers, it can take serious time to build something. 15 minutes isn't enough.I hope you don't think that we are ill-minded because we complain? At least i feel a frustration over them making a wonderful synth and then crumble it to pieces with weird decisions like the GUI and demo limitation.
Sorry for being harsh, but it felt a little like you put words in my mouth..
The gui? They could totally lose the keyboard IMO, or at least have the option.
I didn't mean to put words in anyones mouth. I guess i was just stunned when reading through the thread all the negative stuff includiong people (sorry if this was you) saying they weren't even going to bother trying to make their own sounds because they just threw it in the bin.
Two layer each for the kick, snare and hat. Similar to what they did on the 909 preset.Nice kick btw! Was it from one or more layers?
There was a high end crack with quite a harsh, quick compression and a low end with some mild distortion and a softer compressor (the built in ones of course)
Yeah. It does make a decent difference.I like synth made kicks as each hit are a little different. Different enough to be heard (more acoustic so to speak) but not different enough to affect the mixing.
I used the standard. As for preference, I'd have to play more. This was made in an hour, so it was dial stuff in, play.Did you like the SH-101 mode (filter/env) or the .. "lush" mode best for drums?
But this is the nice thing. The layering is set up perfectly for you to dial stuff in as a drumsynth with very little in the way of issues too.

Here is an attempt at the BOC roygbiv sound. There is this lovely growly fatness in the lower mids that I just can't imitate but this at least is getting close. Also I think I haven't got the ambience right on the very short reverb that is on this sound on the original track, needs more tweaking. There is no way that Lush-101 could achieve this all by itself, but I am sure when BOC did this they didn't just use the dry signal from their synth
The chain is: Lush-101 -> Syntorus demo -> Slate VCC (RC-tube) ->McDSP 6030 -> Relab LX480 (Ambience setting) -> Slate VTM -> Softube Trident.

The Lush101 file won't play in the KVR player and when downloaded it shows that it's corrupted (I thought it was an ogg as during the download it showed .ogg??)Ingonator wrote: LuSH-101_Funky Bass 1

UPDATE:
The Funky Bass preset reprogrammed with TAL Bassline, again i used the settings 1:1 from the patch sheet (internal Arp used, no FXs added):
TAL BassLine_Funky Bass 1
Anyway. So I thought I'd make my own Lush101 Funky Bass which emulates the Synthmania sound. The PDF 'Funky Bass' patch sheet gives an entirely different sound. If I'm not mistaken (the PDF image is really bad) the resonance is set to max in this patch! Which it isn't in the actual Synthmania audio example. Your TAL example misses the Synthmania sound completely, by the way.

I could get it to sound closer still, but each time I got there, the demo timed out!
To my ears at least on this example Lush-101 sounds remarkably close to the real deal. Mind, this is a simple sound and it should be possible to get it in other good VS synths as well.

Almost became deaf myself...
Load the "Zanzibar" preset in the "Poly > Pad" folder
Try playing this Am chord : C4-E4-A4.
Nasty resonances, the first reflex I had was to hide my ears with my hand instead of turning the volume down.
How agressive that was

If you save a project in your daw with this demo, will it not still have the same setting once you reload it? Or does it go back to default?
@keef, seems like we're on the same page. I agree that some may have uninstalled it a bit too fast but it could just have been writing as well. After my first 15 min and a squinter's headache i was close to uninstall it as well but i wanted to prove me wrong so i gave it another spin. Im very glad i did
I didn't know they had worked on it for so long
Personally im mainly/only interested in the SH-101 emulation as i suffer from the too-many-synths syndrome. Maybe i could justify a purchase if it really was a synth that could replace some of what i got though that would force me to the marketplace here and i don't like trading
I forgot who now, but the mention of "affordable" real analog hardware made me think ... and browse the web for these toys. Am i silly spending so much on vst's .. hmm

In all honesty had it just been a 101 emulation i wouldn't have been bothered for it.
I doubt I'll use this for standard 101 uses. I'll be using it for pads and hypersaws which is exactly what I hoped I'd be using it for.

It took me a while to figure that one out, but actually you can have the envelopes retrigger on every note. Next to the envelopes you'll find a bunch of LEDs under Reset, select "trig" instead of the default "gate" and you're good to go.Keef Baker wrote:Oh... One thing I don't like... Multiple notes of the same note with no break means it doesn't trigger the envelope.
That needs fixing, or at least being made optional.

I tried out LuSH-101 yesterday and I have a few quick observations.
- cool sounding synth
- needs an intro price
- change the demo PLEASE
- keyboard is obviously taking up too much real estate
- there are some cool presets
- HOLY CPU BATMAN
The demo is only 15 min with multiple nag screens popping up during that short time. I think there were 3 extra nag screens in the 15 min demo. Makes me want to punch something in the testicules
We need more uninterrupted time to play. Give us a chance to get really into this synth.
There is definitely something different about the sound of this synth. Something really pure sounding. I'd love to explore creating some sounds from scratch and seeing just what this thing can do for my ears.
I'd love to spend some time getting to know this synth when some of the demo limitation issues are distant memories.

the goal of my test was not to reproduce the sound on Synthmania exactly but to see what happens if i reprogram the patch sheet 1:1.
BTW all files are playing fine here in my browser.
I don't know which patch sheet you used but the quality is not so bad here.
The slider for the Resonance in the Funky Bass preset is left empty so i had set i to zero.
TAL Bassline seems to be much different indeed but i must say i like the resulting sound anyway. Maybe i'll try to reproduce the Synthmania audio demo more exactly later.

For me, as always you guys have done a great job. I bought it without even demoing it as I've not been let down before.bld wrote:...to the question somewhere above: yes, we hear you

Do you think you guys are going to do something about the envelope not triggering on consecutive notes without a gap?

It's set to maximum on the PDF graphic I'm looking at. See again:Ingonator wrote:

This patch sheet and the Synthmania example do not match. It's not that important though as the sound can be emulated by listening to the Synthmania demo.
