Spectrasonics finally announcing Omnisphere 2 with the new Alchemy 2 engine import?
It would definitely get me to buy Omni, since I've always found it lacking in that department.

TBH I'm embarrassed to be feeling that vibe because there are a lot of reasons it's irrational.

Jeez it's almost 7 years since Alchemy & Omni were released and the numerous comparison threads here were mind-numbing, but at that time Spectrasonics "insiders" were saying that the licensing agreements with various synths/soundsources they sampled would pretty much preclude them from offering sample import. Since then Eric has pretty much said "never say never".

So if any of that was true (or still is) purchasing Camel would suggest either Spectrasonics is planning on a completely different instrument, or they just spent a whole lot of money (well, OTOH they're probably not lacking investors).

I've demoed Alchemy to hell & back, and there are some other things it would bring to Omnisphere (or whatever) but for a company their size this would almost be insane.

No, but England, Scotland, and I think North Ireland never adopted the Euro. And since I believe Camel's home base is Scotland I'm just not sure if the ruling includes them or not.

Yes, the new EU VAT law affects them, they are in the EU... Scotland is in the EU... Adopting the Euro has nothing to do with it...

The new directive affects all B2C on line digital content providers world wide (including the US) that sell into the EU - how the heck they'd actually police that is beyond me though.

Since we're playing the speculation game I'll play along. I'm sure this must have been speculated at least a few times already but if there is a buy out IK Multimedia might be a likely suspect. They certainly have the resources and the fit might be good given the iOS apps and the fact that IK doesn't have a synth like Alchemy. I'd have mixed emotions if that did happen but it might benefit all concerned.....even the end user. Or it could be a complete circle f*ck.....who knows....that's my love/hate relationship with IK.

Yes I'm afraid the would be many people's reaction. But think of it this way.....Sampletank 3 with Ben at the wheel ? Alchemy with ST3 sample content/developers to draw upon ? That would be good news.

IK does some things really well and others it just F's up hence my love/hate relationship. But it's just speculation for fun and not likely to happen.

I think when the full story is revealed we'll all be way off base.......... I keep thinking that NAMM coming in a couple of weeks is somehow an important clue........

Just heard about this. I read dozens of pages in this thread, I just had to chip in with a WTF though.

What's so rough about this is that its uncharacteristic of them. They're a good company, with good products, and are well known for their great support.

That said, I worked at a company in 2012 that was bought out. I was working with upper management constantly and felt like I had a pretty good handle on what was going on in the company. But I had no idea they were getting bought out, it was out of left field. They put a gag order on the whole company and basically said if we talked about it before the public release it could be a federal offense (due to insider trading laws and similar). Within a couple of months of the buyout they'd fired half of the senior management. That said, the company still exists, and they still do business, and I have friends who still work there. (I quit when they fired my boss)

So yeah, all signs point to a buyout.

If you put 1 and 1 together, I'm sure some big player got interested in the technology behind Alchemy 2. Camel Audio is/was a company which is very focussed on a core set of technologies, while peeps at u-he enjoy discovering lots of little things that are then put together. Therefore we're not a candidate for a tech aquisition while CA certainly is. No-one comes and says "hey, we like your filters and maybe also your tape stuff, can we buy you?"

i think the whole situation is there because the new VAT laws, maybe CA will be rebranded and location changed to outside of the EU to bypass the VAT bullshit?

that VAT law argument is also one of those nonsense comments, and everybody jumps on that but doesn't understand them..thats what a tax consultant is there fore, wich gets paid once to set everything up according to the law and fine..

sure i'm also just throwing something in, i know as well as you why CA dropped. But maybe the company struggeled for a while now, because of the pirates in the past and now finally went bancrupt. Then there are creditors and maybe an insolvency administrator who took over the handling of the company now, and trys to sell it (or parts of) and to exclude any further damage to the image the people are obliged to say nothing about why and when this happend, to not lower the price the insolvency administrator could achieve for the company. And in that case, there actualy would be laws that could get the former CA crew into liability problems with those creditors..
