WOW!! That sounds totally awesome Rick!! Really
great crunch/metal sounds. I'm interested to what kind
of spacey pychedelic sounds this pup is capable of...1.5
was already very good at that sort of thing. I've been
using sims in the studio more and more lately. I can see
that trend will continue.

You're right, Joe is a Golden God!! :D

thanks, im gonna try some clean stuff too soon... the guitsyn is deep and i need help figuring it out. i had the ringmod emulating a pitch shifter but the pitch is a tad off .. im sure the ringmod is not supposed to be abused for this purpose.. tbh, dunno wtf a ringmod is supposed to be used for... :)

googles..

I haven't read through all the responses so I apologise if I repeat something. I quality of the presets for 1.5 is greatly improved - I have a couple of issues.

I hear a clicking noise when engaging the chorus that is in sync with the sweep. I also tend to disengage the noise gate - I find it always cuts off the tail of notes and find the slight background noise a small price to pay.

One suggestion I have is perhaps two icons representing single coil and humbuckers to show what kind of pickups the preset is designed for.

the ring modulator can create some very dissonant sounds. For this reason, ring modulation is not a widely used effect.
Now there's an understatement....As a guitar effect I've
had little use for ringmods. They can be pretty cool on
keyboard stabs or single drum hits tho.

that's a cool idea -- using a control for the pickup type as part of the FXP.

second, the gate seems much better in this latest version. I don't know if he changed something or not but it's just as good as my line6 guitarport gate.

as for the clicking and popping noises, i read somewhere that adjusting things while the effect is processing audio is a side effect called 'zippering' or something? synth1 does this too, and while it's annoying, it's also free.

i don't know if there is something that Joe can do to minimize or eliminate these pops and clicks and zips and such, but i doubt it.

consider this scenario:

you are building your own patch. you want to pop on some delay, so you stomp on delay with your mouse :D ok great, delay is now on. now say you want to alter the cutoff or something of the feedback you want to be able to hear this in realtime as you turn that pot right?

so then, from a design standpoint if he perhaps enabled a feature that muted/silenced/reset the entire signalflow or something when you begin moving a pot, it would probably not be possible then to audition in realtime like a piece of hardware is right?

i don't know that's why i am asking, but if it's possible, i definitely +1 this FR. but not at the expense of CPU! ;)

one difference i have noticed about freeamp from the commercial plugs - there is no limiting at all, so you have to be very careful and it's quite easy to exceed 0db and clip digital. i don't mind this myself, i like that it gives me 100% control of the sound as it goes through, but it's definitely a potential support issue in the making i think. people will say "freeamp clicks and pops" and they will say (and this isn't implying you are having this particular problem or dont know better either) freeamp sucks because it's clicking and popping.. it might be wise to just put a simple 0db limiter at the very end of the effects chain with a toggle or something? i don't know, i personally know better about such things, but many probably will not and will expect freeamp to respond like other rival plugs? it's not hard to add a UI mod for 0db limiter (dont know where it would go) and it's equally probably not that hard to insert a limiter at the final stage before output? just trying to think if that would even help though. if say the OD forces the clipping and proceeds onward in the flow, would a limiter at the final stage even fix the problem?

of course the people who know better wont say this stuff because they will know that if they crank OD to 10 and contour to 10 and volume to 10 something IS going to clip, they will know that they have to back off one of those controls (master volume is the one i ride because i likes me some overdrive on ten so i do!) in order for the digital clipping to go away :)

there is quite a lot of shit happening in commercial plugs behind the scenes like this i'm sure just so that the users wont think the plug is at fault.

where would you put the pickup selector on the UI bro?

also a quick ask to all would the following work for pickup selector icons:

this is the same kind of thing guitarport uses, so should be ok?

That works for me. :D

grymmjack, now that you've had a while to check out FreeAmpSE 2 does it really sound different from 1.5, or is it just easier to edit? I just hope my favorite 1.5 Fender tone that I've been tweaking for days now can be easily recreated on 2.0. I guess better would be OK, too, though! :D

in regard to the chorus, this wasn't while adjusting controls. The patch I first noticed this on was 'Chiffy 2'(?) I think. I tried adding chorus for a JC120 vibe and during the chorus' sweep I heard faint popping noises. This is in 1.5

Would you mind posting that Fender preset ?

I don't have anywhere to post it, but I could send the fxp by e-mail if you want to PM the address. It's no big deal, really - just tweaks on the Chimp preset - but I use FreeAmp with a bunch of other plugs and I have them all tweaked for this Fender patch because it is my favorite type of guitar tone.Image

I tried the preset alone (without all the other plugs I use with it) and it sounds pretty good, I guess. I added a little reverb so it would sound better on it's own.

hey what host is that? looks nice :D
