Diva does have a multicore mode, yep. Most DAWs make use of it, AFAIK.

I was only referring to Logic...

It certainly makes a noticable difference in Cubase8. If only it defaulted to on...

MF3 simply fell over, both in RAM and CPU. It's a no contest.

Increased modularity of MF3/Falcon has its own overheads. Lua is not as efficient as KSP, too. Kontakt's binary file format is much faster to parse and load than MF3/Falcon open XML based format, and so on.

I mean, I could repeat this test but I don't think it would yield much different results. It's simply two completely different frameworks.
Thank you for that info! There is an important thing for me... multi core support. I think i can't go to far without multi-core support with falcon. That's a thing i didn't thought about yet.
As a Logic user you don't benefit from multi-core support anyway. The only dev I know which found some sort of workaround is 2CAudio with Kaleidoscope, which in fact uses multiple cores (this can only be verified in Activity Monitor though, as Logic's core dispaly won't show that). The multi-core support in Kontakt is useless for Logic users. Just saying...
Mmmhhh, maybe i still know not much about this stuff and how it´s handled. I mainly use Logic, yes but f.e. in Dune 2 and Bazille i can enable multi-core and i can go much further without those cracks and drop outs with it. So i thought they all work around it in some form.
My problem is now with all the features which Falcon offers..... can i make use of it? I really like to make very huge and complex patches with tons of layers and modulation.
How i said, without demo it i can´t imagine if it works. I think you use a MacPro which has more horsepower. I´m sure simple patches will work fine but for that i have enough tools.
Still 2 days to decide (then the best service vouchers expire).

Funny for a bird ...
So far today, I've only experienced one hangup. (spent 3 hours one it)

Sampleconstruct wrote: Well, Zebra definitely doesn't support multiple cores, I don't use Diva so I can't verify that. I would highly doubt she does though.
Zebra doesn't support multi core on anything, no multi core button.
Same with Hive. No real need for it.

Bazzille and Diva both have prominent multi core buttons right up front. :)
Since I don't have Logic currently I can't test it. Using the multi core support 'seams' to have an affect on performance in Digital Performer and Live, but I have not run anything like a test to see if it works.

Urs did say that it didn't matter if the host only used one CPU per track, so it's possible that whatever he implemented would work in Logic etc.

All I'm getting at is that I wouldn't object at all if Falcon got multicore support in the future. I'm biased though, as I have a modified 12 core Mac from 2009, so it's powerful and relatively future proof, the more a DAW or plug in can use multi core.

OK a serious question from another forum (Motunation), can Falcon import/convert all the same file formats that MachFive 3 can? The PDF says nothing, and the web pages on both products make Falcon look like it can't.
magicmusik wrote:Here stand what file formats falcon can load in.

Just some pages back otristan said that sfz is the only format supported for sample library import.
So people with Mach Five 3 should keep it as library converter ;-)

You can save a default preset for the VST (not .h2p, but a default .fxp in your host), then it will load up with Multicore on, if you set it up like that.

Olivier responded earlier that Falcon only supports SFZ import.

When mentioning crashes it always helps to name the OS and DAW you're using, or add standalone if that was the case.
