De nada - if you're interested in 20th century composers than I'd also recommend reading The Rest Is Noise: Listening To The 20th Century by Alex Ross

Back in my student days I almost wore out my copy of that recording. Messiaen as a prisoner of war could compose better music than regular folks who have all the amenities although for someone like him maybe that was the motivating factor.
This was my first time hearing it (and possibly Messiaen, at least while aware of it). It's quite something. Suggestions for a next Messiaen recording would be welcome.

Currently playing:
Webern - Complete Music for String Quartet
Quartetto Italiano
Well there's quite a bit, in fact back in the early days of the YouTube Goodness thread (when the old timers around here seemed to care, dammit  :hihi: ) Voidoid Surrealist and I took turns posting Messaien clips for a while, a proselytizing effort of sorts. They probably would not be easy to find though.

Messaien and Webern were two of the main influences on the post WWII group of composers that included Boulez, Stockhausen and Xenakis. They and others were at one time or another students of Messiaen at the Paris Conservatory. Webern's influence was through his great music given his untimely death at the end of the war.
