Wrong thread, maybe Komplete 8?

Hi Ingo,

My first guess too :)

:-o
Yes, don't know how it happened. But it seems like they should have added Synthex's default Factory Bank to Synthix.
No it would have been a complete loss of time and energy. It takes a lot of time to recreate cuh sounds because you dont see the actual state of a parameter on the Synthex. So you have to decipher all knobs, sliders etc. So we took only the interesting ones. Believe me I've heard it extensively :) Btw there were only 40 presets in Synthex.

More Original Synthex presets will be available with the add ons though for the people who are really into it. But thats it :)

Hi everyone,

Sorry if the answer is too obvious but how can I define the amount of bending for the joystick or it is fixed to one tone?

If it is not possible, it would be great to have different amounts of bending for up and down, for instance, 2 semitones up and a whole octave down.

Thanks in advance.

Hi BrufordRules

It is defined by the center right slider of the Joystick ( Bend to OSc ) and its very handy if youuse the "navigate between notes" playing techniques wich was used for the second lead in the Mont des Oiseaux demos for example.

if you prefer to use the modwheel vs the PitchBend, just assign the wheel to vco tunings or global tunings. this can be handy and very impressive if you assign different values to different Oscillators and/or layers for example. Some leads effects can only be made using this particular techinques, though a bit of time and learning is probably needed to use it in production.

I finally read through this!

I suggest you move the manual link to above the demo links. It would have shortened my last post.

The demo won't let me assign MIDI control so could someone tell me if I could assign layer selection as well as the 2 layer toggles to MIDI? What about the pitch/aka height of individual notes in the sequencer?
DF2R wrote:I've come to appreciate the locking layers - they save me from getting messed up when making complex patches and help me keep track of where I am.
for me it's the opposite. I go to edit one layer specifically and forget to turn others off and I end up screwing them all up. For me a red border isn't a big enough warning. I wonder if the whole thing turning red or green would be too tacky. I need a find a way to switch right and left mouse clicks on osx. Preferably only in Synthix.

Thanks for responding, Lotuzia! Very informative. Couple points I wanted to clear up.
Lotuzia wrote: All "panel" parameters are grouped in the upper rectangle" ( ie a layer panel" ), as all "global" parameters are grouped in the lower rectangle. Seems "almost" obvious to me but well ...
Well, no. I see 3 rectangles. Layer, Global AND the Sequencer/ keyboard area.

In the Sequencer you have 8 boxes and you can target 8 voices in Global. In Layers you have the mod matrix that can use the sequencer as a source. On Layer you can unhide another 8 boxes. You can also turn voices on and off. Because of all this my initial wrong guess was that voices were freely assignable per layer.

Really the Sequencer should run parallel to Layers and Global...That is if you want the signal flow represented visually.

Then there is a wording upper and lower. I don't see the word "split" at all. In the bend section especially it makes me think Layers and Sequencer i.e. Above/ Below.

Keep in mind I'm not saying it's terrible or that I got hung up for very long. I also didn't know the manual existed. I thought if there was one it would get installed with the demo. I had no previous knowledge of the synthex either.
Lotuzia wrote: The bend is an originalk feature of the Synthex. For Synthex owners this means its very handy for them to remake their Synthex patches, so we could not hide this feature. Just reminding here that the Bend Range is ( or can be) an essential part of the Keyboard playing techniques.
. Paul Wiffen told me he used this feature a lot while making sessions for Hans Zimmer, or on a track like Everythin but the girl "missing" for example. I also use this a lot. This IS the difficult thing when attempting to make a successfull MUSICAL instrument. Features ignored by some might be widely used by others.
Haha, I agree with you, that's why I want it moved!

I would keep the joystick screen up 90% percent of the time. I don't think anyone seriously plays by clicking the GUI keyboard. :P Don't all DAWs have virtual MIDI keys? Right now you're giving like 20% more pixels to the keyboard than the joystick and I think that's a shame. If you do have a MIDI keyboard that screen is a complete waste. The only thing you can have open is the sequencer.

It's impossible to click on the GUI keyboard AND the joystick with a mouse at the same time and if you're moving them yourself on hardware what good does it do to see a an invisible spirit do it?!

An interesting feature later on down the road might be a performance mode for the joystick where it increases in size and you don't have to click and hold to use it just move your mouse or track pad. I only have one real keyboard with a joy stick and it often needs repair.

Thanks again for your wonderful synth!

p.s. I'm liking chorus more now, but I have to be in the right mood for it.

Hi Jonahs
Done, thanks for the idea !

2 layer toggles : Not available for the MIDI assignation. But this is a good idea for the next (quite soon, maybe autumn) version.

For the moment, the MIDI management could be enhanced : It does exactly what the mouse does. That means that to modify a value, the layer must be enable, and for all the enable layers, the value will be the same. I agree there is a large room to make things better.

What could be done for the next one : when disable, the whole layer could be greyed.

This feature was asked for the XILS3. I didn't import it from this synth to the Synthix, but why not, you're right it could be very useful.
This idea is : right click on the Joystick will lock the mouse which then have a x4 zoom (so maybe no need to change the GUI). As soon as you click (right or left, the mouse unlocked.
Thanks again for your wonderful synth!
Thanks for this report and idea.

Hi everyone,

I would like someone who is using Synthix 1.0 flawlessly share with us his gear. I am interested to know: OS, CPU, RAM, Soundcard, ASIO Buffer Size, Host, and all you can considering important.

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Bruford Rules.

Sorry I didnt see thi sone before.

Well the Synthix have been working for me on the following systems :

Win XP SP3 Quad Core 9650 EMU 12/12 4 Mo Ram
Win XP SP3 Single core PIV EMu 12/12 4Mo Ram ( Some patches only a few notes )
Win XP SP3 Quad Core etc RME Soundcard ( Host Cubase on these three ones )

Toshiba Laptop Win 7 Asio4all drivers, host chainer. No problems but I didnt try several instances together, only the regular factory library using one instrument at a time.
And finally the last Mac book pro with the small screen. When we did the demo LeMontDesOiseaux we didnt freeze anything, use an old (if not antique) version of Garage Band. Maybe I will be able to add more details on this exact configutation ( it was Paul's laptop )

Hope it helps,

any news on that soundset for group buy participants?

djinsomniak wrote:any news on that soundset for group buy participants?
Hopefully before the end of the month Djinsomniak. If not very soon after.

Currently two of Xils-Lab members are on holydays including Xavier, in some worlds where even wifi doesnt exist, so things are a bit slow but dont worry the soundset will be released asap, as well as possibly the first add on for the Synthix.

Meanwhile those who are interested in new patches can visit our friend Simon at SoundsDivine.

The 64 bits versions are also on their way with encouraging results though I cant announce a precise date for this one.

Thanks for asking I hope you enjoy the Synthix and find it inspiring.

Can't wait! thanks! Already bought the SoundsDivine patches, they're great.

Here's a new Video Tutorial about Layer Management in the Synthix. Watching it might save you a lot of time if you intend to create complex instruments OR adapt existing presets to project context.

+ It includes three very nice audio demos made by Kelvin Ford, using a lot of instances of the Synthix, including all the drums :-o  :hail:

As other tutorials will follow, if some of you would like a particuliar subject to be covered in one of them, please feel free to ask here and I'll try to adress it.

Thanks for reading and eventually watching the video. Imho its worth it, if only to hear what Kelvin made with the Synthix !
