Outside of resizing, have UA ever added features to a plugin without a full-blown MK II plugin? In some instances, they actually seemed to have dropped features like the new Ampex plugin replacing things that were on knobs with toggles. I wouldn't be optimistic that big improvements are coming but I certainly wouldn't mind being wrong._leras wrote: Sun Sep 29, 2024 9:18 am Well UAD have eventually updated a lot of their plug ins over time.
I agree though these synths should be updated and they'd perhaps reach a larger market.

I had both PolyMax and Opal and *loved* both of them, when I was on Windows. (...and if I didn't already have like three other GREAT minimoog emulations, I would have gotten theirs, too. ...not to mention at that price, I think I'd rather actually have the Behringer.)
Now I'm on Linux and can use neither of them because of the iLok thing. Alas. iLock can lick my poppycocks.
So if you'll hear one wish list item from me on these synths, it would be to ditch iLok. But that's a big yeah-@#$^&ing-right, so I just consider UAD a loss.

Why did you switched to Linux? Actually, why anyone besides programmers and people working with servers would choose linux? Windows 11 these days is incredibly stable and well supported.Introspective wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 1:02 pm I had both PolyMax and Opal and *loved* both of them, when I was on Windows. You do know that Linux is not well supported before moving to this system, its not like unknown information and UAD can support the systems they want, you have a choice to buy uad or not. I do believe you have a good reason to move to linux, but come on, if its not available, don't be karen about thatIntrospective wrote: Wed Oct 02, 2024 1:28 am Not here to argue OSes, thanks. ... just wanted to harp on iLok, another way to punish people for being good...

By Jamcat's rather liberal interpretation of the term "abandonware", the majority of UA's catalog would be defined as such.

The flip side of that is that UAD plug ins have been staunchly reliable, so they haven't needed to make many updates.Scotty wrote: Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:07 pm By Jamcat's rather liberal interpretation of the term "abandonware", the majority of UA's catalog would be defined as such.
I'm not sure I'd call them abandonware.
They had a few plug ins that didn't get ported from UAD 1 to UAD 2. Now those could maybe have been abandoned.
They actually updated some of their very early bundled plug ins recently. A channel strip, delay, modulation. All very good sounding with low CPU, now also looking modern.

Both PolyMax and Opal are excellent synths: I consider them among the best-sounding software synths available today.
Sadly, that's a large group already (and constantly growing), so I worry that it's not enough to make it "worthwhile" in the market. I'm not entirely sure why these synths were overlooked, but it's certainly a shame they aren't more popular.
...Mmmmmmmmaybe iLok had something to do with it. I know there's a fairly broad resistance to using it... but, well... you can't say ALL UAD products are "overlooked," so that argument doesn't really hold much water, unless there's something specific to synths rather than effects that makes iLok less appealing?
