baconpaul wrote: Fri Mar 27, 2026 1:18 pm That's exactly it. If I modify the VST3 to not support edge programs at all in Cubase, it all works. It is definitely calling setProgram again after setState and thats just .... ugh. wrong.

It will take me a bit of time today to get it merged and cubase-only but I'll get it done and push a 1.0.3 today or tomorrow.
But it's Steinberg, and they obviously will use VST3s properly, right?

Right?
Yes, Steinberg treats VST3's correctly in Cubase. It all works incredibly well. Personally, I would ignore EDs eyerolling response.

And thank you, baconpaul for tracking this down. Glad to have helped.

It's not just my eyerolling response, if you'll see the linked thread. No other host does the same shit with plugin exposed preset list, because that shit is not logical, at all.

Why not be a professional, as a representative of Surge, and take it up with Steinberg directly? Is that kind of comment really necessary in a troubleshooting thread?

Because steinberg doesn't care...

wait, I'm seeing a similar thing in Logic 12.1 on Tahoe. I called up a factory preset which I selected from the plugin browser - modified it a bit, recorded something, didn't save it, just let it be, and then a preset which I modified but then saved as an internal logic AU preset - the factory preset sounds completely different when I open the project. The AU sounds fine.

I’m just turned off presets at the edge and will do a 1.0.3 tonight

I tested logic quite a bit but I tested 11 - but I will just kill the feature like I said.

OK there's 1.0.3 which just turns all this stuff off.

That cubase behavior is weird. I'm sure theres some API in the VST3 SDK I could call but I dont see how to get to it from JUCE. Problem is some combo of juce + my code + vst3 underspecification + au and logic weirdness but turning it off solved the problem.

Will take a little while to get it into home-brew but download from there now and have fun.

Thank you for the incredibly quick fix, Paul. I loaded the Project that started this and it loaded my saved VST Preset into OBXF and the name I gave it shows up in the Cubase Preset name area. The VST3 version works like a charm now.

I guess it was a good thing that Steinberg offered a fully working demo of C15, eh?

They have an nfr program too which I will sign up for - with the exception of logic which I own to make music forever, every daw manufacturer has given me an nfr when I’ve asked to help make sure surge ecosystem was operating - including cubase 10 which is last I had.

So: yes! But also I should sign up and start testing in it a bit more regularly like I do in reaper live bitwig fl

This version loaded up for me no problem in W11. The previous version did not.

Excellent. Something that C10 did not have back then, is the Modulator plug-in section. I've been playing with those on various OBXF controls to make it sound a little more alive than possible with the unit alone. It's a fun rabbit hole.

Yeah I want to do clap polymod so I can get that in bitwig - this could be an interesting synth with that feature

Just put together a script which generates it and its now linked from the manual online.

The script doesn't run automatically when we update the manual yet. That's a next step. But at least current manual pdf is there.
How would I do that please ? :)

If all you want to do is read the manual, I think this will take you to it:
