1. What is so special about xhip?

what is so special about you?

do you really want a list? i'd rather not toot my own horn too much, i've already had complaints for what little i've already done.

2. Will it 'ever' get a normal ui?

yes, by october it will have one. between now and then, stfu regarding it please for the love of god or whatever.

The sound.

I'm also bored to death with the GUI complaints. It works, and rather well. There will be a new one, but I couldn't care less if it comes 2018 as long as I can use the synth.

You can also "cheat" on the unison thing by using comb filters. Thats how the old JP-8000 did it.

+1

I used to say the typical "the gui puts me off it" until I used it for more than 5 minutes and now it's pretty fluid.

He's coded a brilliant VSTi, he can afford to be arrogant. Suck it up bozo! :hihi:

(that means, don't take it so personal)

Cheers!

If you mean using delays, then you end up with a chorus. I've done that too in Sytrus, thinking it would be a CPU-friendly alternative to unison. And it is, but it's not the same. You have control on the starting phases of each voice with the unison, and this is precious.

I did a comparison with the Roland SH1000 and Minimonsta last night, here are the observations...

- The filter in Minimonsta is bascially identical to the Roland ... I know this is quite a claim but it sounds incredibly similar, even the way the higher resonance behaves is spot on
- The square wave sounds extremely similar to the Minimonsta
- The sawtooth waves sound very different, the Minimonsta sounds extremely clean while the Roland has more harmonics in the lower notes which makes it sound a lot less like a real sawtooth.
- The Minimonsta actually has a nicer bass response and much faster envelopes which I prefer.
- There is definitely a little more dirt in the Roland, e.g. a pop when you click each note, a osc which plays all the time even when all others are turned off, this is quite low but it does add some dirt to all sounds.
- The analog also behaved a little different, it was a little more, alive ? ... it did unpredictable things, while the Minimonsta was a little more well behaved.
- Mixing waveforms sounded a lot more solid with the Roland, with the Minimonsta I heard some light flanging going on (even with Detune to 0), the Roland creates a much harder sound when stacking oscs with no detuning. The flange thing could be something that the Mooog actually did, but I can't be sure since I don't have one.
- The Minimonsta was brighter overall, but this could easily be EQed to match.

Overall, I prefer the Minimonsta's sound and envelopes, but love the tightness of waveforms on the Roland and the more human feel and sound it has.

Both are great and definitely in the same league. When trying imposcar afterwards, I must say that it also is an incredible synth which sounds extremely real, the filter is actually even better than the Minimonsta / Roland filter in my opinion, and the way the envelopes close on the filter with higher resonance is like nothing I've heard before, it is just so damn good.

So have you guys heard that GForce are working on a new VSTi ? Do tell ! I would really love to see them create something with a similar feature set to the Nord or Virus, something new and unique using their technology which contains things like hard sync, FM, ring mod and many filters to choose from ... I think they could easily nail it and create a VSTi which completely wipes the floor with hardware. Time will tell :D

I love minimonsta! Great sound quality, and really cuts through the mix!

Yeap, GMedia is in my top 3 of top quality companies. They have the best documentation i've seen too!!!
It's more fun to compute..

hmm that's a good point, I've never even opened the manual because the GUI is so self explanatory.

Not sure why, but I hate the GUI of impOScar though, am I the only one ? The text is hard to read ... might just be my crappy eyes :D

Minimonsta is great though :D

Cheers
