yeah, originals and custom banks tweaked for particular sequences, and a few commercial banks -- this has been a trip through the way-back machine, still have print-outs of the contents of my patch banks, spent last night comparing downloads with my lists and found most of them. Found another ten banks in the SQ8L_Banks.rar, happy to see that one has a patch list doc, that was huge time-saver.

well, is this fun or what? thanks much for the links, haven't used the ESQ in, i dunno, at least 10-12 years or more but haven't wanted to sell it either, nothing quite like it since.

Great to see an Ensoniq keyboard getting such good press. Long may their reputation and sounds live. But I have to admit that seeing this emulation of an Ensoniq makes me a little sad, too, since I start thinking of Ensoniq's fate, and the damage the shut-down inflicted on the development of instruments.

Ensoniq and E-Mu were my favourite synth and sampler companies... yea I could definitely say it makes me sad too the situation they've gotten into. Not just sad, it's pathetic. At the time, Creative was just a pathetic PC audio-card firm, good one, but... jeez, still can't quite fathom it out.

Ok, E-Mu is still doing some good stuff, but when you compare it to Emulator III and IV times... and Ensoniq? Last good product was Paris as I remember, a really good one.

WOW - what a fabulous sounding synth. Really fine work. I look forward to the release of SQ8X. If the price is right, I'll be getting it for sure!!! Thank you for the free light version.

btw - I tried rendering a track and my Tracktion 3.0.3.3 crashed to the desktop. I'll test some more and report to the developer if it is repeatable.

Not to pull this thread off-topic, but I think I read that the Soundblasters were derived from the Ensoniq sound cards--that's why the crime was so terrible: Creative bought Ensoniq just for the soundcard technology, so they could produce inexpensive sound cards, and then eliminated the company entirely, throwing away all of the keyboard\sampling knowledge and skills.

Wow - CompyFox, what a fascinating site you have, the old EMS synths nearly brought a tear to my eye! Wasn't there an EMS called the Putney - I didn't see it?

As I've said before this file contains every bank freely available on the internet for the ESQ-1/SQ-80, (including those on the link you posted beboop

), all ran into Soundlib to cull duplicates. If anyone should find any free internet banks I've not included please let me know.

Thank you for doing this! That was some labor of love, I know -- before tomg posted the link to your compilation I'd been slogging through downloaded bank after bank, looking for the few I really wanted -- your file (and especially the patch list doc) saved me untold hours of drudgery.

well, now I get to slog through my giant folder of cryptically named Atari floppy images and see what I can salvage of my sequences...
