Like what I am hearing.

Working on Windows 7x64 in Cubase 6.5.4. H/ware : i7 @ 2.66 (quadcore), 12 GM Triple RAM, RME FF800 @ 256 Sample rate.

Issues I hit running 1 plugin instrument (Korg MS20) and 1 effects plugin (Cytomics The Drop):

• Oversampling above x2 in realtime caused some issues and x4 or above was not good, unusable, asio spiking and hitting the ceiling on 256 samples.
• Whilst changing sample rates experiencing some spiking crackles.
• After this I got a humming/ringing whine noise and replicated with high pitched ring which hung and wouldn't disappear, even after switching The Drop of in Cubase, however closing The Drop did stop the issue.

I am sure these will all be ironed out as in Beta. Maybe a beta forum could be useful to separate the positivity from the development needs.

Peace

A sample not a show stopper just a run of the mill simple MS20 and TheDrop play around :

I'm finding I really like the MS20 for the high end from a small amount of movement and the simple lo end.
The envelopes are going to be interesting. Can this work by being triggered in quaddro mode for sidechain or Im I tripping on that idea?

Looking forward to the other filters...very very much!!!

Plus one thing i noticed, there is NO change to the sound WHATSOEVER with the filter fully open and resonance down..
Actually if you run some white noise through the filter you will easily hear that there is removal of the high end when you bypass.
I am not sure if that is a downer though, I wouldn't be surprised if a hardware filter does exactly the same thing
Despite, that I completely agree on the quality. It makes me feel like the past 15 years of doing music on a computer, I have been kidding myself about what a filter can or should be able to do. With the Drop I finally get what people mean when they say a filter can fatten up the sound in an incredibly pleasing and musical way.

The Auto-Filtering is really fun. Especially with the self oscillation!

That's just audio into the sidechain and nothing in the signal path.
Doesn't it sound cute. ^^

This is just a ridiculously bad ass sounding filter. Excellent work!

Just The Drop, without any input: http://soundcloud.com/bronto-scorpio/th ... nput-drone :hihi:

I really like The Drop as an instrument! It's great for drums, FX and drones.
It's of course also a great filter :hihi:

Cheers

This drone sound is baddass!
What exactly have you done there?

Next three days will be hard for me, since I have to learn for an exam. :/
But after that I will experiment the shit out of this thing! :)

Just did some recycling of the selfosc-example from before:

(Harmor --> Flanger+Sat+etc. --> The Drop for more abuse)
I just love that kind of aimless experimenting. :D

Edit:

Ah .. and now I know, why it's called "The Drop":

Well next to my ms10 filter I don't think the difference is so big ... Granted the ms-10 filter screams a bit more with full resonance, but afaik ms-10 filter is a bit more aggressive than the ms20 filter.
The MS 10 only has a low pass filter , so you can't really compare that to the MS 20.

AFAIK the MS20 Rev 2 was used as model for the Drop which is an important reason for the difference with
my Rev 1 unit.

I had both rev 1 and rev 2 MS 20 synths at one point and the difference between them is very obvious.
Personally I love the Rev 1 and don't like the Rev 2 at all.

BUT again, I think The Drop is an amazing useful ITB solution !
Can't wait for the full version 8)

This sounds awesome! CPU is INTENSE though. 40% for one instance!? That's more than Diva even. :(

Post

Urs modelled the two revs on Diva, there is a huge difference between the two.

Wondering what some Diva Drops will sound like, or are the filters in that already as good as this?

I love these kind of products that are aimed on giving the user authentic sound instead of focusing saving CPU cycles first and concentrating on the sound second.
It looks like some of you guys need new computers if you want to keep up with the latest products. CPU usage is 4% on my PC running @ 96khz (3930k @ 4 ghz). It's not that bad IMO considering this is THE best sounding filter plugin ATM (imo of course).

I have to say that The Drop sounds so tasty. It really reminds me of a good analog filter. The Drop fills all my expectations and goes even further than that. This plugin was worth the wait and all the hype also. I wasn't prepared of getting such a fast LFO's in software form. They can be rare in the hardware too. Oh man... The lfo's can go sooo fast! And not just that, they also sound very smooth while doing the audiorate modulations. I love just em. This must be the fastest lfo's of all the software filters? Audiorate modulations clerly show the differences between running this plugin with or without oversampling.

I don't have a MS20 but I have an analogue solutions rack unit of the MS-20 filter (don't know if it's rev 1 or 2?) and drop has the same quality as this hardware filter. But that is just my opinion. Maybe I will do some A/B tests before I selling my unit. Just to be sure ;)

Today I made one of the best sounds I have played for a long time: P08 > Drop > VSC2 > PSP Echo > Aether > Twintube. Yammy!!! I can see myself using The drop not only for filtering but also fattening single instrument tracks just by running some audio trough it. It's so easy to transform boring sounds into something new with this plugin. I am really impressed!

I have to repeat that for me The Drop is without a doubt the THE most analog sounding digital filter I have ever heard. I am not an expert in this area but I know how analog filters sound when compared to typical software filters. I want to congratulate Andy for making this amazing product. I can't wait to see what you have stored in your sleeve. Maybe CEM and/or SSM filters for the drop? ;)

I also would love to have a synth with these filters, but I have to wonder if current computers could handle anything other than very low polyphony?

Future is digital, I see it now

simply mindblowing.
was making some cymbal rides ...riding the resonance with some sweet alive metallic tones so difficult to get with other plasticky softies.
i guess i was out of the safe zone...as it all disappeared when i clicked on "safe" :hihi:
anyway stunning super detailed filter with great features and gorgeous gui.
i'll wait anxiously for a synth version of this, hopefully for xmas?.
in the meanwhile with any vco slapped infront (from any modular or synth that can disable the filter) it's pretty much there.

Post

Sounds real, without the noise floor. :D

I think the LFO is causing some clicking between the host buffers. Besides that, everything is sounding great.
